Speaking of rockabilly, the other day I was listening to the car radio with my mom and a song was playing, don’t know who was singing but it was “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” and the DJ said after it that it was reminiscent of early Elvis.
Mom huffed, “Does no one recall Gene Vincent?”
And I knew exactly what she meant. But Tony Orlando? That name I had to google.
I’m not much better at ‘70s films, although a few outstanding made-for-tv flicks are in the repertoire.
Looking forward to a ‘50s music thread...

I didn’t know Dylan wrote Watchtower until MrT5 told me-I had thought I knew about every song Dylan wrote-I’d been hearing his stuff since I was about 12-13, when my mom was into folk music...
Macca’s “Maybe I’m Amazed”
Every sound on that song was from Paul, anyone who questions how great of musician he really is, should marvel at that.
I would add Sugar Magnolia and Box of Rain, also from American Beauty. All are great songs on one of the best albums of 1970.

Yeah, Jimi wasn’t much into covering other artist’s tunes, but Dylan was one of his heroes. He really loved him, and drew a great deal of inspiration from him. I think that’s one reason he put even more than his usual 100% best into covering All Along The Watchtower.
One of my coworkers-an electrician-does welding as a hobby on weekends in an open shed on his property, right by the trail to the river-he is an old headbanger like me-he is into the deep, dark stuff, too, so I hear DOA every Saturday morning when I go hiking-he’s got it cranked up so loud I’m pretty sure it can be heard in the next county...
He has some CDs of really depressing metal done by some European bands-Germany and Sweden I think-their stuff makes Bloodrock sound like a bubblegum band-do not like...

Layla (Pattie Boyd Harrison Clapton) remarried for the third time in 2015, at the age of 71.

Oh yeah, great station. Whales singing in the station breaks, album cuts you’d never hear on top 40 stations. Good stuff. My fave in the early 70s.

The DJs are characters, each specializing in a particular genre—blues, jazz, bluegrass, rockabilly, whatever.
It’s funny how some people’s ears interpreted that one line. I was 14 when Purple Haze was released. From the first time I heard it, my ear heard, “’scuse me while I kiss the sky”
People just weren’t grokking Jimi if they heard something else.
Heck, I thought Groovin’ said, “Life would be ecstasy, you and me, and Leslie.”
