It’s funny how some people’s ears interpreted that one line. I was 14 when Purple Haze was released. From the first time I heard it, my ear heard, “’scuse me while I kiss the sky”

People just weren’t grokking Jimi if they heard something else.

I think you are right-and those like my cub did not hear the song until years after it was first released, but by then the kiss this guy thing was a kind of urban legend-so maybe when they heard the tune, that is how they interpreted it?

How many people still think Elton John sings “she’s got electric boobs, a mohair suit” in Bennie and the Jets? It has always been one of my fav tunes, but the first time I heard it I thought he said “boobs” instead of “boots”-so did the guy I was with...
