Didn't note it in the post you replied to, but in the 'rock' genre one of my absolutely favorite albums back then (and still, truth be told) was/is:

One of my faves as well. ABB was the first rock concert I ever went to, in 1973. Sadly, it was after Duane and Barry had passed, but it was still a fantastic show.

I have always thought that In Memory of Elizabeth Reed would make a great orchestra song--with lots of strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion. That might come close to the big sound provided by the Allmans.
