I didn’t see any mention of him either. He was great in all his films and I think he stole the show in White Christmas.

he'd tell you it was Art Carney. In serious moments, Gleason could be humble and self-deprecating.

I think it’s outrageous it’s way down at 98!!!!
In defense, #1 and #2 are not strictly “tranny” movies. They’re about men trying to keep afloat by pretending to be women, not because they “love” it.
Back then, men doing tranny comedy was pretty common. Milton Berle and Flip Wilson had it as stock and trade. But no one saw it as “promoting” transvestitism. They were just trying to be in character as women. (By the same token, what’s really so bad about blackface?)

I mentioned “Court Jester”.
Danny Kaye was fantastic. But I really wasn’t mentioning comedians because it was too hard to think about!
Bob Hope was truly great.

.. noting your screen Name, are you a musician? My screen name derives from my Detroit nickname Gig, which was given to me by my baby sister. No one in Detroit knows me by my given name, instead calling me Gig. I was a musician for 40 years until 2012 when a doctor, through sheer incompetence and negligence induced a stroke in me which paralyzed my left hand. So no more playing guitar and bass. Instead , I'm here on Free republic, and living in northern Michigan, in Charlevoix.

Thank you so much!!! I love blue grass!
Fell in love with blue grass when I saw Sruggs and Flatts when I was a tiny girl scout.
Indiana has a blue grass festival called Bean Blossom. First time I went I saw rocking lawn chairs women. Didn’t know they made lawn chairs that rocked. I loved them! The whole festival is filled with happiness and kindness.
Best song ever.....Rocky Top.

It was really him hanging from ledges etc.It was him, but there was some clever camera trickery involved. He filmed in places in Los Angeles where the buildings he climbed were next to a hill so that he looked like he was higher than he was. Also, they would build a false story on top of a building so that from the camera's point of view, he looked like he was close to falling to his death. Out of camera range, he was really not in much danger, and would have fallen only about 15 feet. Still, it was clever and did require skill.

"Did you know that the "Chalice with the Palace" was actually a Bob Hope gag? "
Thanks for the link. It's a good clip. I've wondered how someone could hear the full script routine if the audience was laughing. I'd forgotten the lightning striking the suit of armor and magnetizing it. I could never have imagined Robert Middleton as the antagonist night and that made him all the more hilarious to me.

Unfortunately, one comic who never made it to the big screen was the late Mitch Hedberg.

Red Skelton or Bob Hope
Others as well
Neither of those could act well
Steve Martin can act and do stand up
Nicholson can act and be funny doing so

Bob Hope. There is no other person who dominated Vaudeville, Radio, Movies and TV and did so for decades.
