A raft of new national and battleground polls released Thursday found Donald Trump slipping well behind Hillary Clinton one week after the end of the Democratic convention, and as the Republican nominee reels from a public feud with the parents of a slain Muslim American soldier.
"There has clearly been a significant movement toward Clinton in the last week," said Ken Goldstein, a professor of politics at the University of San Francisco and polling analyst for Bloomberg Politics. "Some of it is a Clinton post-convention bounce, but more of it seems to be a Trump deflation or implosion."

A NBC/Wall Street Journal national survey found Trump trailing Clinton by 9 points (up from five points last month).
Ayres cautioned that polls at this juncture early may yet be fluid.
"The general rule is that you wait a couple of weeks after both conventions finish. Before you start assuming that polls are particularly predictive," he said. "Around the middle of August we'll start to get a sense of where the race stands after the dust settles from the Democratic convention and the Trump convention."
Goldstein said polling averages are more instructive than any one poll, but that a steady Clinton lead of 7 or 8 points could harm Republicans down the ballot.
"Fifteen points is more than Ronald Reagan won in his landslide victories," he said. "If you're in a world where it's over 10, then this is a landslide of historic proportions."

OK , I’ll assume you’re right and I’m bellyaching too much about Trump. What about the 10-20% of mushheads(the ones on Watter’s World) that are influenced by these push polls and they actually change their vote? Obviously I’m focused on the goal of electing Trump. The other consequences are too grim to contemplate. Like I said yesterday, I’m going to vote for Trump if he runs naked down the street ranting about the Wrath of Khan!
Hillary is not rising, she is the weakest Dem candidate running for the White House, also this is August, people are vacation, the summer Olympics is starting up tonight in Rio, folks right now are not paying attention to politics.
Those so-called “mushheads”, if they were not Bernie supporters before Bernie dumped them, and if they do not go third party, if they do not break for Trump or vote for Hillary they will most likely will stay home.
Phoney or not, Trump has got to find a way to speak above all these headlines and recapture the high ground. This is how Reagan won and Trump needs to take a page from that handbook and get busy.

It is right now early August. Folks are on vacation or are getting ready for vacation so they are not going to pay attention to politics. Plus the summer olympics is going to start up tonight. No denial that it is not going to be easy. Even I know of two morning conservative radio show hosts, on the local listening area who are going to be on vacation next week. August is a quiet time of the year.
Better that any mistakes be made now because at least it will in this 24/7 news era will simply be going down soon in the memory hole.

I sure pray you’re right. Here’s another worry from this worrywort. I work in a small tech company with a lot of really bright people. To a man they think Trump is deliberately sabotaging his campaign. Either the pressure of the race is too intense for him or he planned it all along to give it to Hitlery. What’s your opinion on these thoughts?

Trump is still up BIG with Indies... He’s weaker among Republicans that tradition R candidates... and Hillary is about where a typical generic D would be among D’s...
Sampling is way way off in these things.. one I say didn’t have any I’s at all in their numbers... others had D sample at like 45% I’s at like 15% and R at 40%....
The very idea that Hillary has the support of 48% of the electorate is laughable on its face... Bill Clinton only got 49.2% of the electorate in 1996 and Hillary is nowhere near the level of politician that her husband was.
These are polls being put together to create a desired outcome, not to capture the actual electorates preferences.
This election doesn’t have much play, most folks have made up their minds, the only segment of voters of any size to be courted are the Rs who are hesitant on Trump.. and I can’t see any way Hillary is going to get many of them.. they may stay home, but they aren’t going to break for her big... And Trump will likely get most of this group in the end.
I hope you’re right. The United States will be, in many way, done if Hillary is elected, especially considering she’d probably have a Democratic Senate as well, plus a weakened GOP House with immigration leftist Paul Ryan in charge and eager to help her complete the demographic destruction of conservatism.
But the polls have shifted from where they were two weeks ago, and many here were pointing to them then as if they were of legitimate predictive value. Trump is down, and Hillary has risen. She’s near, at, or above 50% in several of them now. It seems unlikely that the polls were legitimate 2-3 weeks ago, but now they’re garbage. Surely you remember the whole ‘un-skewed’ poll stuff from last time don’t you, when some were the polls were skewed to prop up Obama, but that turned out not to be the case. It sounds like the same thing may be happening again this time.
I hope that it’s bias and people simply not paying attention yet. But to the extent it’s the latter, then once they start paying attention why shouldn’t we expect them to be influenced by the former as some others clearly have been over the last week? The mainstream media isn’t as powerful as it used to be, but the constant, uniform, and maliciously negative coverage of Trump does have an impact on the voting public.

I base my position that folks do not start to pay any attention to Presidential politics until after Labor Day as a general rule. That is a fact.

The original firebreathing Trumpsters attack me because I am a “broken glass” republican who venerates Ronald Reagan. The other side hates me because they don’t think Trump is a true conservative. I was A Ted Cruz Scott walker supporter before one dropped out and the other went nerdo. Nothing would make me happier than if DJT was announced as President on the day after elections.
