What sleeper movies of the last ten years or so would you recommend to family or a friend.
I’d recommend “The Lost City” (2005) about the Cuban Revolution and how it splits one family apart. Andy Garcia directs and strain the movie. Great drama. Great acting. Good period piece.
I’ve seen Ass hundreds of times.....just with different names.
The SciFi Channel’s “Dune” productions are more faithful to the books, certainly. Jodorowsky was NOT going to make a faithful version. Nevertheless, his vision and the amazing talent he assembled for this project make for a fascinating glimpse into a highly creative mind. Oh, and he is dog-nuts crazy.
“Jodorowskys Dune A film about the greatest movie never made.”
Also, the 1960s copyright hold over version of The Hobbit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBnVL1Y2src
I love money,,,
Says it All !
That was an awesome movie.Blade runner revisited.
“... And there was a time in this country, a long time ago, when reading wasn’t just for fags and neither was writing. People wrote books and movies, movies that had stories so you cared whose ass it was and why it was farting, and I believe that time can come again!”
I saw it twice in its very limited run back in the last ‘70s. It's a sleeper in every sense of the word. It should be more well known.
Older than 10 years though. From 1998.
Just with no Ethel Merman or Ernest Borgnine, of course.
I could be wrong, but Borgnine wasn’t in that movie; maybe you’re thinking of Jonathan Winters...
Movies should be restricted to no more than 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Those that run 2 hours or more, I lose interest about 3/4 of the way through. As I watch, I think, ‘yeah, they could have cut that 5 minutes of nothingness out’ at several locations through the movie.
I recall one with Clooney (not one of my favorite actors, for sure, but I watched on DVD). Half of the movie was watching a vehile travel across the desert. Turn around and do the same. Again and again. I fast-forwarded and ended up with about 30 minutes of actual character engagement.
Might have to download that movie for tonight!
>Brest Fortress (Fortress of War), 2010. Russian, eng subtitles. Worth watching.
IMHO, the best war movie ever made.
Also, if you have the stomach for it, ‘Idi i Smotri’ (Come and See)
Where would I find “Judorowsky’s Dune”? I’ve never heard of it.
I think it’s been showing on the Showtime cable channel.
Sicario. Watch it. Trust me. Excellent movie.
My Way a Korean World War 2 film about the Korean soldier who ends up in Normandy after going through hell to get there. Better then Private Ryan.
