The milk crystals of the Pacific beetle cockroach are beautiful. Slice open an embryonic roach under a microscope, and the crystals spill out in a shower of nutrient-dense glitter.
But the flavor of cockroach milk is nothing to write home about. Subramanian Ramaswamy, a biochemist at the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine in Bangalore, India, told The Washington Post as much early Tuesday. As a party dare hed lost a drinking competition one of Ramaswamys colleagues once ate a sprinkling of the crystals.
He said it doesnt taste like anything special, Ramaswamy said.
Most roaches lay eggs. Not the Pacific beetle cockroach. It gives birth to live young, sort of like humans if we kept babies by the dozen in fleshy organs called brood sacs. Also like humans, mother Pacific beetle cockroaches produce food for their offspring. The embryos dine on a liquid substance packed with fats, sugars and protein. You can think of this like cockroach milk.
It gets weirder.

As Daffy Duck used to say; “Despicable!!!”
I need to go on a diet anyway.
I’ll stick with buttermilk thanks.
Hey Jagdeesh, hold muh beer and watch this.
Cockroach milk?
I didn’t know they had nipples!
The title alone made me gag. I am going no further.
Eggheads run amuck.
A photograph of a female beetle mimic cockroach giving live birth
No.
Damn liberals want us eating bugs.
LOL
How do you milk the cockroach?
Very carefully . . .
Yes. They do.
They want to control every single aspect of our lives, no matter how trivial or personal.
He He He! Great Comment!
Like one time I picked up a bag of Cotton Balls and asked,
Does Cotton Really Ball?
There is no need for a “next superfood.”
2 pounds of corn becomes 1 pound of beef. You’re never going to beat cattle and their digestive flora at transforming corn into protein and fat. And corn is king of fast growth.
That’s a case alright! A mental case!
I think I will let the vegetarians and vegans enjoy this treat first.
Got roach milk?
