Paul Manafort Weakly Denies Any Charges of Melania Trump Plagiarism: ‘There’s No Cribbing’
CNN via Youtube ^ | July 19, 2016

I transcribed the relevant part of the interview.

CUOMO: Who takes the fall for cribbing Michelle Obama's speech in 2008? Whose fault is that?

MANAFORT: Well, there's no cribbing of Michelle Obama's speech. These were common words and values that she cares about her family, that uh, that things like that. I mean, she was speaking in front of 35 million people last night - she knew that. I mean, to think that she would be cribbing Michelle Obama's words is crazy. I mean it's so, I mean once again, an example of a when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton how she seeks out to demean her and take her down. It's not going to work.

CUOMO: All I'm saying is the language is strikingly similar. I'm not making a big deal of it; I know everybody is talking about it this morning, but I don't think it's an allegation, it's not some suggestion without proof. I don't know why the campaign doesn't just own it and say people borrow phrases, that's what happened, and movie on? That's what, ironically, Obama did in 2008 when Clinton said he cribbed from Deval Patrick. He said, "Yeah, you're right, I did it."

MANAFORT: No, no he did do it. That's correct. But in this particular case, you know, there was a process certainly of collaboration that.. Certainly there's no feeling on her part that she did it. You know, what she did was use words that are common words, and to expect her to, to think that she would do something like that knowing how scrutinized her speech was going to be last night, is just really absurd.

CUOMO: Right, but again, that's assuming that it was Melania. I'm assuming that there were writers involved, but if that's the way you want to explain it, that's up to you. Let me ask you about something else.

I can’t figure that out either. There are only so many ways that those thoughts can be expressed. The writer didn’t even try to modify the pattern. Nefarious? That is my guess. Someone should be vetting all the Trump family speeches for this type of thing; a very trusted person.

I am? I don’t think so. I thought she gave a fantastic speech. Sadly, this what we see in the media and all over social media this morning. I don’t write the headlines.

This is an unforced error that the Trump speech writers could have easily avoided. That said, Manafort is right in that any woman who delivers an eloquent endorsement of Trump, like she did, will be attacked by Hillary and her allies in the enemedia.

The response should be that the difference between the speeches of Melania and the wookie is that to Melania, these words have real meaning and truth. To the wookie, they are just words.

Why would they think they needed to plagiarize a speech from the wife of the worst leftist in the country?

If I were them I'd simply say, "great minds think alike," and let it go at that.

“Just admit it was plagiarism and move on.”

LOL. Are you serious?

Newsflash: Political speeches are not copyrighted.

If Obama has a problem, he can sue Melania. Maybe his FBI can find enough evidence to indict.

That could be if it was just that...but put the plagerism and the rick roll together and it might tell a different story. Hillary plant..Cruzbot..Nevertrumper..I don't know but Trump needs to find out.

Don’t know or care what the media is focusing on..at least she didn’t plagiarize (if she even did) for grades and journals like lefties do...Biden being one.

I guess I would except did you see the look on her face just before she did it? My theory is she asked for it. Hey speechwriter, I was a rick roll. (I didn’t even know what they were before this morning... my son told us). Look at her face. She knew and was loving it.

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY ADULT LIFE, I AM PROUD OF MY COUNTRY.

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY ADULT LIFE, I AM PROUD OF MY COUNTRY.

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY ADULT LIFE, I AM PROUD OF MY COUNTRY.

Why don’t they remember that line. Seems not one media outlet pointed out how disgustingly ugly these words were and who made them.

This borders on ridiculous. What is everyone getting so worked up over? I’ll bet you could pull a list of 100 politicians and find where they have said the same thing, in a similar fashion. You know, all tyrants rise from humble backgrounds. These are stock phrases.

True, they have spent more time on this speech than Obama’s past. Have they ever found someone who remembers Obama in college?

Trump would NOT have done this to Melania on this important first speaking in the public eye event.

There is no way.

And it is a big deal to find out who did it.

But you can disagree. I am Trump agrees with me and gets to the bottom of it.

It might turn out that the speechwriter was a Hillary plant.

That's a possibility. But then you have to wonder why no one inside the campaign caught on to it. It seemed obvious enough to the media.

That’s my thoughts. Maybe, just maybe, it’s a VERY rare coincidence as there are a few different phrases in there, and the campaign doesn’t think it should be done. Maybe the speechwriter thought he/she changed enough, thought those were common phrases, didn’t think they did anything wrong, and the campaign is being loyal. Maybe the campaign thinks admitting to it would be worse, although the media seems to think admitting to it and blaming it on the speech writer would solve the issue.

I agree, though, that letting go of the speechwriter would solve the problem.
