I transcribed the relevant part of the interview.
CUOMO: Who takes the fall for cribbing Michelle Obama's speech in 2008? Whose fault is that?
MANAFORT: Well, there's no cribbing of Michelle Obama's speech. These were common words and values that she cares about her family, that uh, that things like that. I mean, she was speaking in front of 35 million people last night - she knew that. I mean, to think that she would be cribbing Michelle Obama's words is crazy. I mean it's so, I mean once again, an example of a when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton how she seeks out to demean her and take her down. It's not going to work.
CUOMO: All I'm saying is the language is strikingly similar. I'm not making a big deal of it; I know everybody is talking about it this morning, but I don't think it's an allegation, it's not some suggestion without proof. I don't know why the campaign doesn't just own it and say people borrow phrases, that's what happened, and movie on? That's what, ironically, Obama did in 2008 when Clinton said he cribbed from Deval Patrick. He said, "Yeah, you're right, I did it."
MANAFORT: No, no he did do it. That's correct. But in this particular case, you know, there was a process certainly of collaboration that.. Certainly there's no feeling on her part that she did it. You know, what she did was use words that are common words, and to expect her to, to think that she would do something like that knowing how scrutinized her speech was going to be last night, is just really absurd.
CUOMO: Right, but again, that's assuming that it was Melania. I'm assuming that there were writers involved, but if that's the way you want to explain it, that's up to you. Let me ask you about something else.
‘As has often been said, the youth who loves his Alma Mater will always ask not “what can she do for me?” but “what can I do for her?”’ - George St John (JFK’s former headmaster at Choate School)
I’ve had it up to HERE with Cruz and his robots and the rest who yap when one little thing goes wrong. Endless hysteria accomplishes nothing except it pleases leftists and the media. As it was designed to do.
The real story yesterday was the hilarious put down of the Cruz and Romney supporters.
Really? On what planet?
Big difference! Melania was speaking from the heart with true feeling and michelle was spouting words without meaning which is the only thing she knows. Who in the devil can even watch - let alone recall - what she says? What’s more - WHO CARES?
Seriously. The Republicans are such pu$$ies and Trump is teaching them to fight. The correct approach is to turn this right back on the media and tell them that this is the problem with the media. You have a criminal running as the Dem nominee, who was given special treatment by the FBI, lied repeatedly to them and the American people and left 4 Americans to die in Benghazi and the media is focused on a few lines in Melania Trump’s speech? You make Melania the victim in this and frame the issue as the media is focusing on the trivial while ignoring major problems in this country. Unbelievable that there are so many FReepers wringing their hands over this.
Or Melania, recognizing Michelle's genius [yeah, I know, bear with me here], copies some lines from Michelle. Melania is, what, an idiot and a bad person? Well, I happen to agree with her here.
Once you understand liberal logic you can use ju-jitsu to get them to throw themselves on their backs, like the liberals did here.
The Dems have to focus on this so they don't have to talk about Benghazi...
But let me ask you, why is this such a big deal to you? It was 1 paragraph in a long speech. Did anybody ever examine Michelle's speech to see if her speech was plagiarized, and if she had, would Obama suddenly have lost?
The more you show angst about it the worse it becomes. Just say meh, and move on. It is not a big deal.
Howard Stern played the relevant lines this morning. I don’t see a big deal. I also feel this was a setup by one of the speech writers and that if this is all the left has then they can eff themselves. She did a fantastic job.
I might add that if her speech occurred during Bill O’Reilly’s program he would have bloviated right through it.
“”Anything to deflect all the lies Hillary has told””
They’re struggling to find a way to make Hillary look as good as Melania did....they’ve got their work cut out for them and they won’t succeed....Hillary will show up to speak at the dem convention with her normal horse blanket on.
Purposeful as in they knowingly used the words from Mrs. Obama’s speech? Sort of stick in your eye?
RickRolled......I think it’s pretty funny. I never even heard of it until last night.
Absolutely. Classic bitch-slap.
This is why I love Ann Coulter even when she strays. What a great response!
“Not a big deal in the scheme of things, but I imagine Donald is pissed, and Melania is pissed and hurt.”
Oh, you can bet Trump is pissed. And I have said it before, this guy holds a grudge. Someone is going to pay for this.
It’s too bad that her speech was marred like this...she did a wonderful job and presented herself very well. Even Matthews said she was a victim and he was going to find out what happened according to a post on FR.
The media is being especially filthy this election cycle!
Even I am impressed - WHERE do they hold their secret meetings to organize this? It cannot be a coincidence- unless they all watch each other’s raw feeds
It’s an insight into modern American men like Chuck Todd that they focus on a paragraph of her speech and ignore the eye-bulging bodaciousness and amazing charisma of Melania Trump. My husband’s eyes were out on toothpicks watching it.
[ It seemed obvious enough to the media. ]
No. The media was TIPPED OFF!
This was a very well orchestrated hit job, where the saboteur plants the lifted lines in the speech... Melania gives her speech, all of a sudden, this Jarrett Hill d-bag points it out, and immediately has a transcript of Mooch’s speech at the ready, with the dup’d lines already highlighted.
No way this was “obvious” to the media....
Or Steve Martin in, The Jerk. “I was born a poor black child.”
