what station and time slot?
I remember her. She was on KFMB radio in San Diego in the early ‘90s as I recall.
I used to be a smart alec in grade school and middle school, and my friend David and I discovered the "magic" of recording crank calls to radio stations. We (mostly David-I got too nervous) successfully fooled Frank And Mary, Frank Ford, Dr James Corea...Bernie Herman, But I could never fool Tom.
Tom saw through my "angry black man" disguise wondering why the people at the Empire State Building never celebrated "black history mumf" by putting up blacklights on top of the building in February.
After he disposed of me, he cooly stated "Another notch on the holster" He didn't buy my (very good) Indian accent and asked me why if I think WWDB never let Indians call, I was on the air talking to him. After having no answer for him, Tom then asked me what part of India I am from. To combat nervousness, I had written down my character's official "biography", that included his name, location, job, and other things, except his home country. I tried to change the subject. He asked me again in that kind of drawl he had: "What part of India are you from?"
My answer? Bangladesh?
He hung up the phone.
Another stroke following surgery - those doctors do love those blood-thinners......
And on one show he was defending Ron Hurichi the Ruby Ridge shooter
LOL. You and I could be friends I’m sure. Crank phone calls should be a part of every boy’s development.
Just don’t try it with Tom. He’ll get ya.
Were you the guy that always called other blacks 'hankachif haid'?
So very sorry to hear this, I loved it when that guy sat in for the Great One.
RIP Marine.
I don't think so. If it was a "regular" caller who you heard more than once, then it was not me. I have to find the actual tape, if it is still around. I could see myself saying that as a kid, though. It's been more than 25 years... It seems like yesterday.
Tom was a great broadcaster and an even greater American.
RIP - you will be a hard act to follow.
Eventually they lured him up to do afternoons but then instead of doing his show they forced him to do infomercials for stuff disquised as his show. He quit that almost immediately and I have only heard him a handful of times since. Always enjoyed his shows whenever I did get to hear one.
RIP, Tom. RIP.
I liked her for a while but her mix of 70% politics, 20% obscure 1950s music, and 10% interstate highway stories evolved to be about 60% obscure 1950s music and she lost me.
Oh no! Listen to WCBM’s Sean and Frank every morning via the net and listened to Tom afterwards if I had a week day off.
Good man. Prayers for him and his family.
RIP.
<Frank And Mary, Frank Ford, Dr James Corea...Bernie Herman,
Ooh, I remember all of them. We lived in Philly during the late 80’s - 90’s. We were big fans of Irv Homer. I can’t remember her name, but there was a lady on Friday or Saturday nights who used to do psychic readings, which was fun. I remember that she called me at home during a big snowstorm because she was calling single folks to make sure they were all right, which was nice.
We loved that station.
Sorry to hear that. Lon Horiuchi is scum and a fine representative of the American Stasi.
So sad! Wonderful conservative radio host.
Condolences to the family.
How does a blood-thinner cause a stroke? I thought it was the other way around, that they are supposed to prevent clotting and stroking. I'm honestly asking.
