A commenter on Free Republic said it happened near Elie Wiesel’s funeral.
I heard/read that a young man started climbing one of the boulders in CP when he stepped on something and it exploded very loudly. I believe he lost a foot and part of a leg. Poor kid. He seems to be very young and a good looking fellow. Not known if it was a firecracker of some sort or something more sinister. Happened near Elie Wiesel funeral. Don’t know if that was related.

Nothing on the local news here in NYC when I turned it on. That’s not to say it hasn’t been updated since I’m running around and not watching tv.

Firecracker??? RIIIIIGHT! Was it a “Lady Finger” or a “Black Cat/” Whew! Those are just sooo dangerous.
I can categorically guarantee that whatever it was that exploded under this guy’s leg, it was NOT a “firecracker.” Not even an M-80 or two Cherry Bombs fused together.

A firework will burn you severely, but even a mortar round will not blow a leg off. I’m thinking someone place an explosive to bomb Elie Weisel’s funeral and this guy found it and accidentally detonated it.
