One thing Star Trek always does well is push beyond social boundaries, often featuring progressive storylines that question controversial issues of the time.
The new Star Trek series on CBS will also feature progressive characters and stories, maintaining the tradition of going "where no one has gone before."
When asked about those kinds of story lines, showrunner Bryan Fuller confirmed that the new series plans on going back to Star Trek's roots.
"I think the progressive audience that loves Star Trek will be happy that we're continuing that tradition," Fuller said to Collider.

The original series was considered socially progressive, but today would be considered conservative. The original Captain Kirk was a real captain. Ever since Jean Luc Picard, the ships’ captains have been bureaucratic mid-level managers in a politically correct universe.

Actually, it’s “where no MAN has gone before.” This was changed for the new series “Star Trek The Next Generation” (1987) to no “ONE” to be politically correct. 1 9 8 7? Should have been 1984 (George Orwell 1949)
I shocked myself, being an avid Star Trek fan, that we have been infected by political correctness for that long. I remember the first time I watched the new show and immediately recognized the politically correct change in the iconic open.
I likely will check out the new CBS series, but I doubt I’ll continue to watch it.
I know, especially since so many story lines actually dealt with that which was supposedly nonexistent -conflicts and problems caused by human nature- and many aliens also exhibited that same human nature. Many episodes featured megalomaniacs or mad scientists etc.
I watched Enterprise some, and I thought it was generally quite good. At some point the whole time travel thing just became too ridiculous for me and I lost interest. I think I always have a preference for TOS because I watched it when it was fairly new and it was a big part of my childhood.
Obviously there will be LBGTQ characters.

If I counted right, Majel Barrett (Roddenberry) was about 57 when that was filmed. Not bad at all. Marina Sirtis was 34.
Understand, but I’m more enamored of what I think of as timeless beauty. Even today, someone like Belinda Bauer gets my crank turning, and she is the same age as I am.

Sorry but it was the reincarnation of Dr. Who that put homosexul as normal propoganda into the main stream sci fi world... The shows writer, Russle T Davies was a flamer and made sure every episode had a homosexual character or couple in them and made sure you knew they were regardless if it had any bearing on anything story related or not.
Star Trek going there now is passé. Homosexuals are so over represented on tv shows that if blacks were as over represented no whit actor would be able to find work on any show.
I thought it was really good. Until YT, I can’t recall seeing it before and I watched a fair amount of Carol Burnett.
there was a temporal cold war that was the backdrop for the whole series. it was an interesting storyline that spanned most of the run. all of the time travel related to that. the Enterprise crew was a pawn.
there was also a later storyline about the Xindi which paralleled the events of 9/11. they were manipulated into attacking Earth by one of the factions in the temporal cold war IIRC. they were basically told they had to stop earthlings from traveling the stars because in the future, earthlings would destroy them.
the end of the show was a big letdown for many, but once it hit its stride after the first season or two, it was interesting. worth checking out again. i think it was cancelled prematurely due to Star Trek over saturation.

Not being able to give it my full attention likely resulted in perhaps a couple of missed episodes, and admittedly I am not a fan of time travel to (IMHO) introduce overly complicated story arcs and timelines (not to be punny!). That said I do recall a few episodes where even though I was unclear as to what was going on they were, in and of themselves, very well done. I was already a big fan of his from Quantum Leap. Producers and networks seem to give up on shows very easily, sadly. ST TNG first season was deplorable, but it eventually got pretty good, and many episodes were exemplary. My new favorite show (Grimm) is likely heading for cancellation after the upcoming (short) season. I doubt I will be as lucky to see it picked up elsewhere as was, for instance, Longmire.

It was great watching her on an interview or some such because her normal accent was so far removed from the character.
Did you think Janeway was politically correct. She was out there on her own the whole series without the federation on her back. It was all survival. And there was Jeri Ryan in a tight suit. Now that’s as anti-correct as you get.
