I meant to post this a couple days ago but have been busy.
I noticed on twitter that Amex is now using the symbol stolen from the Scripture by the homosexual community--the rainbow--to symbolize the company's avatar.
the company American Express says it is commemorating homosexual behaviour throughout the month.
in return, for the month I will be using one of my Visa cards--even though I use Amex regularly because of a decent return I've enjoyed via its "points" program.
I urge any FREEPers who use credit responsibly to do the same.
I dumped them 20+ years ago.
These companies think that the majority of the US citizens are gay - Penny’s and some other company tried their gay catalog sales and totally bombed. They’re playing to maybe 1 or 2% of the US. And Target too has found out the hard way. When it comes to money and the bottom line you watch how fast they bail.
It was Costco. Saw the sign when I was in there with my MIL last month that they were switching.
Amex was looking out for their bottom line and a new agreement with Costco wasn't going to help it.
Just the month? I quit forever after 25 years of patronage.
Thanks for the clarification. Do pretty good at remembering the meat of an issue but sometimes some of the details get lost. My grandson says I have a photographic memory but every now and then I run out of film.
There is a huge, new Costco in our area which I pass every day. Don’t have any reason to go in there but thought it was interesting that any business would even stipulate just one kind of card. My doctor clients who currently accept AMEX for patient payments may be forced to stop in the near future. Rates keep going up compared to other cards and it’s just eating into their already lean revenue.
Thanks for the additional info. Their continual raising of fees to small companies rather reminds me of those that keep pushing the increase in the minimum wage. Pretty soon AMEX is going to also find themselves with an insufficient amount of other people’s money.
Part of all of this is due to the provisions of the Dodd-Franks bill which did nothing to protect consumers but put a whole lot of money in a couple of businesses pocket because of mandated security software which user companies had to purchase from them. Several small businesses I know of quit taking all credit cards. They felt they either had to do this or raise their prices. Two owners I know well said their business has not suffered as a result of this change.
A wise choice! Some people have to live within buzzing distance of a metropolis, for employment, but if that means a mortgage on a house priced at $200k or worse, no thank you. Or for "good" schools (which often aren't). I was homeschooled and when I have children they'll be homeschooled.
Then there's the superior quality and the sheer charm of the typical 100-year-old house. Mine's a converted barn (converted about 90 years ago). Worth at least 5x what I paid for it and I wouldn't sell it for 10x what I paid.
The color spectrum and rainbows are NOT owned by gays.
Ridiculous.
Soon you will guilted into avoiding sunshine because some group owns it.
The sun, moon, rainbow, colors; the social warriors and media can F off. Those are mine.
A solution: I pay with untraceable cash for everything daily and use a debit card when cash is not an alternative. Shopping on line, etc.
Ummmm.....
yeah, my visa is through a bank. I know we cannot avoid the world. My point is Amex is in my face. I can turn about face.
amex dumped costco? Wow I am behind the times.
Who does costco use now?
Are you gonna boycott the world? The whole freakin’ world has gone rainbow.
Costco has done same
Visa
And at the end of the month what will be different?
amex will have had less of my money than it otherwise would have had. :)
