Orlando survivor admits TRAPPING other club-goers inside after he escaped... 'doing the right thing'

One of the Orlando shooting survivors has admitted to locking an exit door, putting dozens of revelers' lives at risk during the massacre. The revelations about Luis Burbano's actions the night of the shooting have come to light after he gave an interview, saying he 'regrets' his second chance at life. When gunman Omar Mateen first started firing inside Orlando, Florida gay club Pulse around 2am on Sunday, Burbano says he dropped to the ground and then looked for an exit. Nearby, he saw people moving through a small 'employee's only' door hidden behind a curtain, and followed after. On the other side of the door was a narrow hallway where Burbano estimates about 20 people were crawling over each other to get to the exit at the other end. Burbano says he decided to shut the door behind him because the hallway was getting dangerously overcrowded. Burbano was questioned about the rumors he locked other partiers inside the club during an interview With Fox News' Megyn Kelly on Sunday, and during the interview he admitted that it was risky. 'That was on my mind,' Burbano said. 'There was banging, there was pushing of the door...but at that point in time, I just tried doing what I thought would be best at that moment because [the gunshots were] getting louder and getting closer.'

This article says he locked the door. Other articles say he held it closed -- and don't say for how long. Given that this article is from the British press one might well be skeptical.

Whoever was banging on the door (and he would have to know that it was somebody trying to get out) may well be dead now, and that's on Burbano's conscience.

Holding the door closed until your group can get safely away and locking it after you are two very different things, though, and people will judge those acts differently.

Correct. We really need to wait a bit to verify which of the two it was. If he was holding the door shut with a possible shooter on the other side, he was a brave man. There was a professor named Libresku at Virginia Tech who did that to protect his class and died for it. On the other hand, locking the door when he knew others were trying to use it to escape is a very, very different matter. Either way, it was ugliest for the people inside.

When I first read it, it sounded as though he believed that the shooter was after a specific victim - himself. That is, the shooter knew his intended target had escaped through that door. He was shooting everyone in sight trying to get to the door. (The shots were getting louder and closer).

The intended target was holding the door shut.

It’s just a theory but it appears to fit the facts.

I know what you mean by “crisis actor” since there allegedly were a bunch at the Sandy Hook aftermath. Here’s another actor that was evidently inside Pulse nightclub during the shooting too. It certainly does make for really good footage for the media to have trained actors to interview after all these recent terrorist attacks.

I listen to a gun show on the radio sometimes. I have concluded that being able to use a firearm properly in a crisis situation is a likely a lot like Karate. Situations need to be practiced and reviewed constantly.

I have a concealed carry permit but don't carry. I don't have the will and determination to give it the mental and physical practice it needs. I really do have another life other than self defense.

By the way, I have been a green belt in Tae Kwon Do 3 times. Here, too, I just don't have enough interest to give it the practice and mental energy needed.
