See? It's not just you... :!
Refusing is useless. You will be converted come what may.
I am now contracting for a medical device company.
If they upgrade the production computers, they basically have to re-qualify every machine to make sure it is still working properly.
So that shuts down production until it does.
So...literally... people can DIE because of this stupid policy.
Ping! If you care to comment, mate. :)
Or just wait and see what some of the latest activities on the ‘doze front have brought about.
Unless you specifically need Windows to run a program, most people would be better off with a Chromebook or Chromebox.
More sophisticated users that don’t need to run a specific Windows program would be better off with Linux.
Microsoft Windows is not your friend
My computer crashed while I tried go back to Windows 7 after Windows 10 downloaded itself. I finally had it restored and had #neverWindows10 installed.
Switch to some form of Linux....XP ate my lunch too many times....I now run Linux Mint 17.3
WinX obsoletes your legacy hardware.
Windows 10 is AWFUL!!!!! HORRIBLE!!! IHATE IT!!
It keeps trying to force itself on me and so far, I’ve been able to beat it back.
What the article says is absolutely correct: Trust has been violated. I’ve been a staunch Windows user since around 1990 before Windows 3.1. My first business was called “Windows of Opportunity”. I will likely ditch Windows after my current machine in a few years.
MS needs to be sued over this.
1) I have been running Windows 10 (technical preview) on an older machine for more than 2 years.
2) I have recently upgraded a newer machine via the free offer.
3) I generally like Windows 10. It’s fast and more secure than previous Windows versions.
That stated, it is not for everyone, and it can cause problems. A friend allowed the upgrade on his laptop about 3 weeks ago, quickly decided he didn’t like it, and try to revert to Windows 7. The rollback failed, rendering his laptop unbootable.
I fixed it for him, using the recovery partition on his hard drive. This set him back to factory image, which was pre-Service Pack 1, meaning that there were hundreds of security patches need to be installed, including SP-1.
Microsoft has changed the Windows Update components several times in the past couple of years, making obtaining these updates exceptionally slow and erratic — with update scans lasting for HOURS and DAYS and finding nothing available. It took me nearly 3 weeks and a lot of investigation to finally assemble an up-to-date system.
If you contemplate allowing the upgrade, make sure you have an image of your current system to fall back on in case of disaster.
I stated in another post just the other day...
There is a free, very short download, that will keep Windows out of your system.
If they forced a download and before you install the forced download... look up ...
GWX CONTROL PANEL and install it.
This will stop all Windows 10 activity.
I did and I’m happy.
Get a Mac.
This thread is full of competent computer users.
Well, I am not, but I do have a bad temper when assaulted.
W 10 imposed itself on me and took off before I could do anything myself, but sit there and be victimized.
I picked up the phone and called McAFEE, spent hours with them performing major surgery on my poor little desktop, and finally excised the S.O.B. from life.
It may not be permanent, before the expiration day on the 29th, but my computer runs better and McAFEE got that stinking Windows 10 icon off my lower bar screen.
My problem is Windows wants to update, but my computer won’t allow it, no matter what selections I make, which do include Windows recommended updates. The Windows icon still begs for update permission.
Maybe McAFEE blocked these updates, I don’t know, but McAfee banishes these intruders and does it with zest!
PS: I don’t even know what 10 is, either. It’s just the bullying tactics that have determined my resolve to never cooperate. lol.
I upgraded to Windows 10 on a tablet after which Bluetooth would no longer work. Fortunately I made an image backup using Clonezilla prior to the upgrade, so I was able to easily return to Windows 7.
Now I have run Never10, https://www.grc.com/never10.htm, which prevents the upgrade. No more nagging.
Windows 10 upgrades also shut down many (not all!) video cards and audio programs on older PC’s.
Sorry: No more audio.
And yo cannot “Undo” or successfully Abort the Windows Upgrade once it starts.
Microsoft Vista Home Premium on a new laptop turned me into a happy LINUX user. All of the Windows 10 upgrade problems I’ve read about convinces me that I made the right decision when I dumped Windows for LINUX...
My upgrade happened on a reboot. At first I thought it was a virus. Now after months battling it, finding my pages off center, slow and the system running constantly, I have gone back to Google Chrome. I despise Windows 10 and will not use it again.
Totally true! I just love my new Linux OS. Why, oh why, did I wait so long?
https://www.grc.com/never10.htm Go here if you don’t want anymore notifications. Other than that I love Windows 10 and didn’t have any problems with it.
