In an interview on Tuesday with the French magazine La Croix, Francis minimized the difference between Islam and Christianity, arguing that the religions share a concept of subjugation.
Today, I don't think that there is a fear of Islam as such but of ISIS and its war of conquest, which is partly drawn from Islam. It is true that the idea of conquest is inherent in the soul of Islam. However, it is also possible to interpret the objective in Matthew's Gospel, where Jesus sends his disciples to all nations, in terms of the same idea of conquest.

This is why, if I had infallibility superpowers, I'd use them all the time.

Reading the interview I can see his overall point about the State nurturing religious freedom; however the whole washing of feet was a lot more Spiritual in nature/teaching. The explicit service of the actual washing of feet is a very secondary lesson. The main lesson was to pass on the revelation (Of Christ) from the Apostles to those they preach to. Christ was connecting the revelation of who, God the Father is, through His actions/previous actions/teachings.
Jesus commanded the Apostles to do as He did, hence spread the Gospel/reveal who God really is, not literally wash feet for an earthly purpose/service. Contrary to what the headline says. (Great Commission).
This Pope, jeez, is a convoluted creature which makes him dangerous from a Spiritual POV.

Good Grief.
I’m not a Catholic; but I keep wondering what happened to the REAL Pope; and how my Catholic brethren got saddled with this ...person....

I disagree. The Commission in the headline as elaborated in the excerpt ...
“Matthew’s Gospel, where Jesus sends his disciples to all nations”
...has nothing to do with washing of feet.

I can see how the lopping off of heads is the same as spreading the good news of love, forgiveness and salvation. Easy mistake.

Wow. The level of ignorance of Scripture is amazing. The lack of clear thinking is also amazing.

Farther down in the interview, the outreach he favors is one of primarily service, ie, feet washing, as opposed to conversion which he sees is prone to colonialism. The upshot is that no culture is better than the other, I suppose, and that missionaries must not seek to upgrade third worlders. That’s a vast improvement over what the Spaniards did to Central American indians, but swings too far in the direction of “give ‘em Jesus, but no western civ.”

I think the Pope's over-riding obsession in life is to be seen as a man of the" people".
The problem is he has chosen the wrong people to be one with.

I respect all organized religions (as long as their prophets aren’t proponents of things like rape, beheading, slavery, &c). It’s not up to me to judge how God is leading another; but I’ve never personally been a great fan of organized ‘religion’.
However, I must confess that there are two ‘organized-s’ that I’ve been interested in: The Quakers, and the Orthodox.
