Word for The Day, Monday, 5/2/16
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
pillory; verb
1.
a wooden framework into which offenders were formerly locked by the neck and wrists and exposed to public abuse and ridicule
2.
exposure to public scorn or abuse
verb (transitive) -ries, -rying, -ried
3.
to expose to public scorn or ridicule
4.
to punish by putting in a pillory
Etymology: C13: from Anglo-Latin pillorium, from Old French pilori, of uncertain origin; related to Provençal espillori
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Here is my example with WFTD.
Poor Brooks Orpik is getting pilloried for his hit on Olli Maatta. He is not a dirty player and while the suspension might be merited, no need to act like he's fricking Matt Cooke. No pushing at the door please!
good morning.
Donald Trump for President will make that happen.
Morning.
A+++

Pillory
Hillary
Because of her
Chicanery..............

Did I get it right?
Pillory was one of my class’s vocab words last week.
LOL! good one! A++++
