North Koreas new sea-launched, nuclear-capable ballistic missile and the submarine that fires it are both technologically backward, unreliable, and wickedly unsafe for the unfortunate souls tasked with operating them. In short, Pyongyang's new undersea nukewhich the hermit regime test-launched off the country's eastern coast on April 23is a dud by any normal standard.

Well good! Advantage us!
Oh come now!
I’m sure it is on the cutting edge of Nork technology!
“a modified version of a Yugoslavian sub design from the mid-1970s.”

U.S. Navy should get within range on the open seas and tell them they have 30 seconds to decide whether to surrender and defect or take a one-way trip to Davey Jones’ Locker. My guess is that they’ll choose to surrender.
They figure its cheaper to replace crewmen than to pay for a reliable sub.
No need for a gun pointed at them, they just tell them there is FOOD on board.
Given that they'd be signing the death sentences for their families - probably not.
The wickedness of governments is proportional to the control they place over its citizens - and by that standard, the NORK Government is the wickedest of them all (although I'm sure our Government salivates in envy).
The first hint was the screen door in the conning tower. The second was that the plastic they used in the hull dissolved in seawater. And finally, they built their armaments from plans they stole from the Kursk.
Rationed one rat a day.
