Back in 2008, Time Magazine interviewed Neil de Grasse Tyson, and asked him, ÂWhat is the most astounding fact you can share with us about the Universe? His answer was indeed a very good, true, and astounding fact about the Universe: that all the complex atoms that make up everything we know owe their origins to ancient, exploded stars, dating back billions of years. ItÂs a great fact, and itÂs definitely on the short list of the most remarkable things weÂve learned about the Universe. But if I were to choose the single most astounding fact about the Universe, IÂd want you to consider something else: something far more fundamental and profound. Consider that the UniverseâÂâwith everything in it the way it isâÂâdidnÂt have to be this way. It didnÂt have to even be close. We could have had a Universe without trees, without mountains, without our skies and without oceans. We could have had a Universe without planets like Earth, or planets at all. We could have even had a Universe where nothing that we know ofâÂâno particles, forces or interactionsâÂâexists as it does right now.

What Is The Most Astounding Fact About The Universe?
That I am in it!!! : )
The problem with the “anthropomorphic principle” is: while it seems staggering everything is the way it is, there are a staggering number of other staggering ways it isn’t.
That I happen to be the very center of it. Yes.
The Anthropic Principle is strong in that guy. Astounding, it is not. The most amazing to me is the immense number of galaxies as shown in Wide Field surveys from the Hubble.
Amazing? The SIZE. All that we see needs a really big space to fit in, which in turn means its age is likewise staggering.
Obama got elected........twice.
137
And yet, for all that, it's still anthropomorphic.
Never.The.Less.
Both its size and age are beyond human comprehension.
Entropy?
That’s amusing, not astounding....
It is.
That may be the most Disgusting Fact About the Universe!
The concept that we are made of Stardust was the entire basis for Carl Sagan’s COSMOS series.
That’s the name of a band.
The one thing I can’t wrap my mind around is this: If you travel at the speed of light and go from one end of the universe to the other, no time would have passed despite the fact that light has a measured speed.
