Donald Trump recalls with chagrin that he supported Barack Obama for president in 2008, but says he now realizes that those moving hope-and-change speeches were nothing more than rhetoric.
"I thought he was a positive person, always," Trump said of candidate Obama. "I thought he'd be like a cheerleader for the country. I think he is creating a class warfare that is a very dangerous thing for the country."
And the country "is blowing up" because it's so deeply divided, he said.
"I've never seen this country in this kind of trouble before, and a true leader wouldn't let that happen," he said.

It should prove he’s not a racist like the left (including GOPe) is pushing.
ah, even Kid Rock had hopes for Obama. Some republicans that were stupid enough to think Dinkins would bring the city together thought the same of Obama.
Black leaders that can bring people together don’t get elected!!
wake up!! (not you oldeconomy)
now i’m going back to sleep :)
So this is the “smart” man, who couldn’t see throw Obama, who is going to negotiate REALLY REALLY REALLY good trade deals with China.
The man apparently had no conservative ideological core in 2008 when he was just the tender impressionable age of sixty one.
Ted cheered for the man who single-handedly gave us Obamacare.
Yes, he was dangerous.
The whole country cheered for Obama initially. We at Free Republic were very much in the minority opinion back then.
Yup. Either Trump still loves Obama and Hillary and is a Democrat plant (my theory) or he is an utter moron with no judgment or discernment whatsoever. EVERY Conservative in America recognized what a dangerous, radical, Leftist, racist Obama was as soon as they hear about his Bull Ayers connections and saw the Jeremiah Wright videos, if not sooner.
Either way, Trump is totally unfit to be dog catcher, much less POTUS.
And then there’s the ass hat who hired and then championed the man who gave us Obamacare.
Whoa Nelly, he’s a sharp one.
Bullcrap. Liberals and some independent moderates cheered for him. Even most moderate RINO Republicans saw how dangerous he was.
Trump is either a special kind of stupid or is a Liberal (or both).
It was well known to anyone that Obama was only about change. Trump obviously has poor judgement (since we know he wasn’t among the majority supporting Obama for all the free stuff).
A lot of you are pathetic. And many of you refused to support Romney even AFTER four years of Obama.Trump is very open and unscripted.
BTW the GOPe wants Hillary even today.
Go Trump!
You are bullcrap. Trump is right on the issues. And it’s going to be him or Hillary so man up.
Worrisome. Trump usually seems like he is a good judge of character. What did Trump think Obama meant when he said he wanted to fundamentally change America.
Reminds me that Dick Morris thinks that Bill Clinton "changed" into the character that he is.
I remember a time in our counntry when all of us praised the President. Now, just poltics as usual. Very sad. I applaud his old fashioned values.
Post of the day!
No, Trump voted for McCain and hand fundraisers for McCain. I too after Obama got elected thought maybe, just maybe there was a chance Obama was right and he would be the guy to bring people together unlike Bush. Quickly we found that out to be be false and Obama was the biggest scammer in the history of our country. That is also what Trump was saying.
You have a memory problem. Bush was a disaster and the Republican party was widely despised in 2008 as evidenced by the ass kickings we took in 2006 and 2008- when the Democrats took the house and senate in 2006 and in 2008 where America elected Obama and the House of Representatives lost another 24 Republicans and the senate lost another 8 Republicans. These losses were historically large. Obama had overwhelming support initially and the GOP was hated. It wasn’t until America saw what they had voted for that our fortunes turned around.
Why did Mr. Trump think voting for Sen. Obama was good for his business? Is crony capitalism something you support?
