Analysis: How Everyone Wins If Donald Trump Loses...Including Trump By WILL RAHN CBS NEWS April 6, 2016
Nearly everyone in the Republican Party could benefit from Donald Trump losing, including Trump himself.
The question is just about how he loses, and when.
It's obvious at this point that Trump is rapidly deflating. Even putting aside his loss in Wisconsin Tuesday night, every indication we have is that he would be decimated in a general election. According to a Washington Post poll from last week, he's losing to Hillary Clinton by double digits. Demographics that went heavily for Mitt Romney, such as married white women, despise him. He's even underwater with white voters without college degrees, his supposed base. In Wisconsin, exit polling soon after the polls closed showed that a plurality of Wisconsin GOP voters without a college degree chose Ted Cruz over Trump, by a margin of 47 - 37 percent.
"In the modern polling era, since around World War II, there hasn't been a more unpopular candidate than Donald Trump," says the Republican pollster Neil Newhouse.
And it's hard to imagine how Trump can turn this all around. His name ID is as high as a candidate could hope for, but the more voters see of him, the less they like him. Two months ago, he was essentially tied with Clinton in head-to-head match-ups in the RealClearPolitics average. She now leads him by 10 points. In fact, if Trump is the nominee, a Mason-Dixon poll released Tuesday indicates that even the solidly Republican Deep South could be up for grabs.
Winning the Republican nomination only to lose the general election in the most humiliating fashion possible probably doesn't hold much appeal to Trump. In fact, we're not even sure he really wants to be president.

Kasich is the only crap sandwich that consistently beats Hillary Clinton and regularly beats Bernie Sanders. Judging strictly by the polls, he is clearly the best choice. The Trump supporters and Cruz supporters basically despise one another at this point and that hatred is harming our chances of winning in the general election. Kasich resolves that problem.
Dude I’m not saying I wouldn’t go there. But Kasich is also complete and utter political stiff with weird nostrils. Not that Trump or Cruz are any less bizarre, besides being folks who wouldn’t make the party nod in pleasure when they thought about a potential nomination. And I’m not sure I buy the polls, anyhow.
Freegards
You need to reinforce the comfort level of your echo chamber.
Weak, Steelo.
Its safer to stay cocooned inside the echo-chamber
Congrats on your Cheese Moose Sister.
And Reagan was behind Carter 58% to 33% in March.....
trumpsters have unplugged fro the matrix. they are enlightened human beings intent on bringing down the system. except why are only bringing down one tower, their own.
Go Steelfish! Go Cruz!
Trump will make a lot of money if Hillary wins.
Yes he did. Last night after the WI election. El Trumpo jumped the shark with his remarks. I cringed because I’m a Trump advocate and was embarassed.
Sadly, you might be on to something. Without a majority candidate going in to Cleveland it is hard to imagine Trump supporters swinging to Cruz or Cruz supporters swinging to Trump. That would necessarily put the “unity candidate” plan into place.
The only good thing is that it cannot happen without the acquiescence of Trump and Cruz delegates. The bad thing is I cannot see another viable national figure worthy of the honor. Cong. Goehmert? Gov. Scott of Florida?
Our betters are telling us that everyone, including Trump, will win if Trump loses. I guess that settles that, except for this nagging question. When has CBS ever known or cared about what’s best for me? And when has CBS ever known or cared about what’s best for America?
Absolutely irrelevant: Totally different demographic of 30 years ago. Even NRO Columnist Mona Charen has analyzed the data and concluded that Reagan won’t be able to win California today. Carter’s polls plummeted in the flames of the desert crash in the attempt to rescue hostages. Never cite this nonsensical stat. UnlikeReagan, 73% of women who make up 53% of today’s electorate say they have a negative view of Trump. 1/3 of Republican voters don’t plan to go the polls if Trump is the nominee. Against either Hillary or Bernie, Trump is charcoal toast.
Only Trump has any crossover appeal whatsoever, which is needed to win the presidency. Rubio is the only other contender who had that (just keeping it real). If Trump is denied the nomination, there’s going to be a lot of situations right down to the local level where the ‘pubs will lose badly.
Seven months out from the general election and before the conventions have even occurred, what's really charcoal toast are your propagandist push polls. Such polls are universally known to be worthless, and are merely an attempt to manipulate public opinion, not measure it.
In any event, even if they were the Gospel Truth (and they're not), Donald Trump could easily make up such a deficit on the likes of Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders. You can deny that all you want, but making such projections 7 months out is absurd, and is veritable "boob bait for bubbas".
Ask yourself, if Hillary/Democrats/Media Water Carriers are so confident about beating Donald Trump, then wouldn't they de-emphasize such valuable information? I mean, wouldn't they logically prefer that Hillary face Donald Trump so that she has the easiest go of it?
Answer me that.
Or, is it instead the case that Hillary/Democrats/Media Water Carriers actually have the GOP voters' best interests at heart, and they're just heroically trying to help GOP voters, and save them from making a mistake in their nomination process?
Answer me that.
I've posed these questions several times to you "push poll propaganda parrots", and have never gotten a single answer.
I wonder why...
The funny factoid that the media ignores often, is Clinton is only a few points more popular than Trump (i.e., she is very unpopular too).
Heck, that goes for almost everyone within 35 miles of DC.
Congratulations -you have destroyed the laws of physics...
