Tell your FNG story!
I just saw a locked thread so couldn't post there-- wherin one FReeper calls another NOOB.
How young must one be on FR to be a NOOB? So I looked... 2010!! I figured it was a joke as the accuser's account was a 2016 sign-up. SO....
At my first squadron as an ensign, fresh outta Electronic Warefare school (se habla espanol.. any guesses where? Second hint, ground-based naval aircraft...) I showed up at the O-club for lunch. I'm a normal guy, not too much attitude for a typical JO. When allofa sudden, another fella I recognized from flight school (we were both NFOs... back of the bus, self-loading-baggage, not pilots) with a funny last name, RIPE for hazing (Muckenthaller-- "What the F*ck, MUCK?!" was common speech I'd come to find out.") Muckenthaller, himself with one month in the squadron sees me come in and announces very loudly to all assembled,
"Hey guys, here's [Phinneous,] the NEW GUY"
You couldn't imagine the abuse that still-obvious-FNG took for both of us for piping up like that while still being an obvious FNUGA, NOOB, NOOBIE, F'in NEW GUY.
So who has a shorter NOOB story??
I think that anyone that signed up after 1999 is a considered a n00b.
Lol
I had two benchmarks/events considering NOOBs
Those that signed up prior to FR's "March for Justice" and those that signed up prior to Clinton's Impeachment. That fortifies your statement 'that anyone that signed up after 1999 is a considered a n00b".
anyone who signed up after 9/11 is a n00b :-)
Like I used to tell a guy I knew born about an hour after me, “Respect your elders!” (We were both in grade school then).
I was a noob so long ago, I don’t even remember any of it.
FNG? Frigid natural gas as opposed to liquid natural gas. Not as transportable.
The perks of seniority!
(8^D) YEP!!
it’s funny you act like you matter. always remember you don’t.
Ah yes, the Don Morgan *** ASH ALERT ***
and the Classy Green Eyed Hurtgen Forest :o)
I still have my March for Justice T-shirt, complete with jail-striped Bill Clinton behind bars saying “I can’t believe that #&*$^ Al Gore didn’t pardon me...”, as well as the State of Connecticut flag I brought for the flag thing we did for reasons I can’t quite remember.
This one time, Deep in the Hurtgen Forest...
Yes dear, I now. Nothing matters. I’ve known that for 50 years.
I caught the tail end of Ash Alerts, remember Quidam, and was in a constant flamewar with A+Bert.
I also have the Mojo flamewar ribbons.
When I first came on Free Republic, I introduced myself. Clarity (since banned, and once Free Republic’s lawyer) told me to shut my yap and try to contribute something content-wise to the forum.
I guess that was 1999’s version of being called a n00b.
I also JUST missed DITHF.
I was in time for ClassyGreenEyedBlonde, though, and ‘her’ infamous thread about how ‘she’ could see the Host (the Eucharist) when she stared into the sun for a few minutes. LOL
as well as the State of Connecticut flag I brought for the flag thing we did for reasons I cant quite remember.
If you are referring to the 'March For justice', all states' flags, various Service organizations flags/banners representing the various MFJ attendees, were assembled by the Washington Monument. It was a windy October day, flags/banners fluttering, and the march from the monument down to the speakers' platform and 3 times around the >4,000 attendees was quite the sight.
What motivated me to attend was the statement by Jim Robinson (mid/late September) was that as 1/286,000,000 owner of the White House he was going to Washington to protest the corrupt Clinton living in the WH. From that simple statement, speakers were assembled, CSPAN filmed, >4,000 of us showed up to listen to 4-5 hours of fellow patriots' statements.
After the MFJ, I wandered over to Lafayete Park (across from the WH) where approximate 200-300 rent-a-black-mob from Philadelphia were 'organized' as a counter demonstration to the MFJ. I still had my Clinton protest banners and needless to say caused quite the commotion with the rent-a mob.
Oh I remember seeing those buses, I had no idea that they were there as a counter to us, they didn’t bother us at all that I saw. Thought it was just another event going on at the same time.
I remember while I was waiting for my ride from NYC to DC I sat on the steps of the NY Public Library on 42nd St. with my “Gore ‘98” sign, getting a few thumbs up and a lot of really really confused looks.
I still have pictures of me with Matt Drudge and Lucianne Goldberg at the after party stashed away in the archives somewhere. It was a fun event.
I still can’t believe how many people fell for that one. Horndog instincts overriding common sense, I guess - what healthy man wouldn’t be turned on by a classy green-eyed blonde, right?
Damn, that’s a helluva welcome aboard.
It made me start adding content like this.
