The Martian was one of the biggest hits of 2015, and was nominated for tons of year-end awards. But being as it's set in space and in the near future, we thought it best to bring back Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson to help us separate this movie's sins from its wins.

But they didn’t blow up the Supreme Court or the White House, so we were left with 2 branches of government and that ain’t bad!
Totally agree. I was so looking forward to the Cosmos reboot, and then had to turn it off due to his insults of Christians. He also made up a lot of crap against George Bush that tells me all I want to know about him. It’s a shame. Like Laura Ingraham said, ‘just shut up and sing’, Tyson should just shut up and talk science.
You would have to turn it into a two or three year tv series to do the book justice.
In fairness, they always have to cut out the majority of a book to make it into a movie. The Martian audio book was over 10 and 1/2 hours long.
I would much rather see The Martian as a 12 hour series on Netflix or Amazon, but I don't see it happening.
Forgot about that part!

Out of respect for the good doctor you should include Tyson’s title which is: “Noted Atheist and Egotist Neil deGrasse Tyson”.
Yes, there were some contrary-to-fact things in the movie, but I liked it and would go again.
Radio signals to Mars take longer than in the movie. But it’s a movie!
Good. In reading over the comments I am happy to see I am not the only one who has issues with noted “Atheist and Egotist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson”.
Thanks!
I will add the book to my list.
He’s also Obama’s 2nd favorite scientist. The first being the science guy Nye who is actually an engineer.
He’s a bully wih a closed mind, which is the opposite of what a scientist should be. He’s also stretching the truth when he calls himself a scientist. At best he’s an educator describing the real work done by others.
And I thought movies were for entertainment. Silly me.
Same! Major letdown. Their hatred and fear consume them. I have read Cosmos numerous times and watched it a few times. Reboot was rubbish, sadly.
Wait, what? I'm crushed.
Read the book, much better than the movie. If they included all the science and explanations in the movie, it could have been a Trilogy.
Carl Sagan was smug and condescending. Tyson is smug, condescending, conceited, bigoted, and a bully. I could have had an enjoyable conversation with Sagan even if we disagreed. That would be impossible with Tyson who would turn a pleasant conversation into an argument.
