Earth is often struck by solar eruptions. These eruptions consist of energetic particles that are hurled away from the Sun into space, where those directed towards Earth encounter the magnetic field around our planet. When these eruptions interact with Earth's magnetic field they cause beautiful auroras. A poetic phenomenon that reminds us, that our closest star is an unpredictable neighbor.
When the Sun pours out gigantic amounts of hot plasma during the large solar eruptions, it may have severe consequences on Earth. Solar eruptions are, however, nothing compared to the eruption we see on other stars, the so-called 'superflares'. Superflares have been a mystery since the Kepler mission discovered them in larger numbers four years ago.
Questions arose: Are superflares formed by the same mechanism as solar flares? If so, does that mean that the Sun is also capable of producing a superflare?
An international research team led by Christoffer Karoff from Aarhus University, Denmark, has now provided answers to some of these questions. These alarming answers are published in Nature Communications.

The Sun is capable of producing monstrous eruptions that can break down radio communication and power supplies here on Earth. The largest observed eruption took place in September 1859, where gigantic amounts of hot plasma from our neighboring star struck the Earth.
Well, I guess there are worse things than Trump or Hillary.
Doesn’t matter. Corporate carbon emissions are causing global climate change, and that is a much bigger threat to us than anything that the Sun or ISIS can throw at us. Because Science!
Could I roast some marshmallows?
Ping.
Of course, corporate carbon emissions are culpable. It’s those dirty corporations again, just ask Bernie! What the really smart people know we need to do is adopt an efficient and just system like the Stalinist system in North Korea. That will save the earth because everyone will be eating tree bark and no one (except members of the ruling class) will be driving their SUV to a restaurant.
Coming, soon, to a Great Tribulation near you!
Revelation 16
8 Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire.
9 And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory.

A superflare would damage the ozone layer. EPA would never permit this.
Holocene megafauna extinction event
Well I guess that’ll put rest to the global warming/climate change debate.
There didn’t seem to be as many species dying off in inter glacial periods as there were at the start of this current warm period. Your hypothesis seems very plausible. Now you can get a government grant. The problem would be that you aren’t blaming humans and either their blood lust in hunting rather than adopting civilized vegan diets or the massive pollution caused by their use of fire.
There was a somewhat similar short story in the English Lit. assigned in high school. As I recall, its major character was a statistician who notice a correlation between the increasing number of sun spots and weird behavior in public. One day hundreds of people threw off their clothes in a blizzard, another day thousands of fish, wales and dolphins beached themselves. As time went on more sun spots and more bizarre behavior accelerated. Finally, he went out his door and the sun was one big sun spot surrounded by a bright corona. Then Bang everything abruptly ended as the supernova reached earth.
“Couple that with our declining magnetic field due to the poles reversing”
Actually, the magnetic pole took a sharp right and is headed over Canada towards Russia again.

Oh, you said superFLARE.
