Max Lucado: Trump doesn’t pass the decency test
Washington Post ^ | February 26, 2016 | Max Lucado

Posted on 03/26/2016 10:22:03 AM PDT by Timmy

As the father of three daughters, I reserved the right to interview their dates. . . For the next few hours, she would be affected by his ability to drive a car, avoid the bad crowds and stay sober. I wanted to know if he could do it. I wanted to know if he was decent.

This was my word: “decent.” Would he treat my daughter with kindness and respect? Could he be trusted to bring her home on time? In his language, actions and decisions, would he be a decent guy?

Decency mattered to me as a dad, and decency matters to Americans. We take note of the person who pays their debts. . . When the husband honors his wedding vows, when the teacher makes time for the struggling student, when the employee refuses to gossip about her co-worker, when the losing team congratulates the winning team, we can characterize their behavior as decent.

We appreciate decency. We applaud decency. We teach decency. We seek to develop decency.

So why isn’t decency doing better in the presidential race?

The leading Republican candidate to be the next leader of the free world would not pass my decency interview.

I don’t know Mr. Trump. But I’ve been chagrined at his antics. He ridiculed a war hero. He made a mockery of a reporter’s menstrual cycle. He made fun of a disabled reporter. . . He routinely calls people “stupid” and “dummy.”

Such insensitivities wouldn’t be acceptable even for a middle school student body election. But for the Oval Office? And to do so while brandishing a Bible and boasting of his Christian faith?

Patton’s actions were unacceptable, at least to Eisenhower and the CIC. Patton was taken out of the fight as a result. Patton apologized for his inappropriate behavior and later worked his way back into a position of responsibility. Was your post intended to criticize General Eisenhower?

Would that be the same General Eisenhower who murdered tens of thousands of surrendered German troops through deprivation and starvation in outdoor caged mud fields after the war, in direct violation of the Geneva Convention?

I have one requirement of the next President.

Willing to uphold the laws against fraudulently documented foreigners and their employers

Doesn’t seem like to much to ask since the last President to even make half an effort was Slick Willy

Will this be Ted Cruz's defense to the Enquirer article?

Max Lucado doesn’t pass the Deuteronomy 13 test, therefore, what he has to say is irrelevant.

I can be darn sure that Mr. Lucado wouldn’t be so quick to slime someone with the adultery charge.

Not sure if Trump is a pussy. But judging from the way he doctorates everything in that Liberace gilded whorehouse style, my guess is Trump is a little “special”.

Hope springs eternal, eh, "BigBobber" ?

You reminded me of this: "And they struck with blindness the men who were at the entrance of the house, both small and great, so that they wore themselves out groping for the door." (Gen 19:11)

...and all that it implies.

But Max voted for Obama anyway. He’s a bitter clinger who acts stupidly.

No, you seem to not care much, you seem depressed. I worry about children that grow up with a pervert for a dad that is never home to be a dad because he is with other women not his wife.

Neither does anyone inside or near the Beltway, it would seem, so it's a wash.
