They came as slaves: human cargo transported on British ships bound for the Americas. They were shipped by the hundreds of thousands and included men, women, and even the youngest of children.
Whenever they rebelled or even disobeyed an order, they were punished in the harshest ways. Slave owners would hang their human property by their hands and set their hands or feet on fire as one form of punishment. Some were burned alive and had their heads placed on pikes in the marketplace as a warning to other captives.
We dont really need to go through all of the gory details, do we? We know all too well the atrocities of the African slave trade.
But are we talking about African slavery? King James VI and Charles I also led a continued effort to enslave the Irish. Britains Oliver Cromwell furthered this practice of dehumanizing ones next door neighbor.
The Irish slave trade began when James VI sold 30,000 Irish .........

But didn’t some English Pope (Alexander **) give the English permission to take Ireland? I’ve read that after this Alexander, the College of Cardinals always made sure all the popes from that the Popes were Italian, until now.
And he looked a great deal like Edward the Fourth. (Ever see the amazing sketch of him?) Unfortunately, unlike Richard, we have no idea where his remains are in order to do a DNA test. They may have been destroyed, I can’t remember right now.
The Ideal. notice the demon clouds chasing the people.
The reality. Notice the labels on each person.

a few years earlier under King Charles, the MOSLEMS were raiding England, Ireland and carrying off whole towns. Baltimore Ireland was completely depopulated by MOSLEM slavers.

POSH! How do you think all those Hessians got here! Germans rounded up by Count Hessee, who told the English he would supply Protestants less the Catholic German mercenaries march on London, overthrow the King, and make the Pope King! He got the contracts even though Hessee was himself Catholic. (THE AGE OF FIREARMS by HELD) Wonderful pictures of the physical “type” OF Hessian the English purchased.
By the way, I'm arguing this mostly tongue-in-cheek. Virtually every race has been enslaved at one point or another.
However, some more than others ...

The Europeans did NOT have a monopoly on slaves. Slavery had been well established world wide since before recorded history. Slavery was NOT peculiar to what became the United States, contrary to what young skulls full of mush are told about black history. Moreover, slavery in the American colonies was actually traced back to ex-black slave Anthony Johnson. This is another fact NOT taught.
the story of my white slave ancestor, Phoebe Sales, is too well documented to sweep under the rug...
She was born in Little Waldingfield, Suffolk in 1626 and came to MASS with the Winthrop Fleet in 1630. At age 7 she was sold into slavery until age 21 to pay for her father’s crimes. John Sales was the 1st documented thief in the colony of MASS...
When she was about 12 she was sold to another man. She was a slave. However later in New York she became the mother and grandmother of leaders of the colony...

My German ancestry came here in the very early 50’s, the 1850’s that is. At the time there had been a rebellion of sorts for several years in Germany and the when the German confederation collapsed in 1848. The Prussians overwhelmed the people in some German States burning down homes and fields/crops. The exposure and starvation killed many thousands of innocent people, my kin included. My 7th great grandfather however managed to escape with one of his sons and came to the new world. His wife and all his children save one were dead.
The world has been a mean place. It has been mean to much more than Blacks or Asians.
The German migration to the new world grew dramatically because of the devastation in Germany against anyone who was thought to not support the leadership.
If you have German heritage that came here after 1848 they probably came for the same reason. It was decades before the dust settled even though there was peace there was devastation.
There are leaders in the world today who are just as vicious. There were many leaders in the 20th century that were just as vicious and it could so easily happen again if we let our leaders have too much power as is happening with President Obama.
The shame is that so many people have no clue of our past and why things are the way they are. If we are unaware of the past we will have to relive it to learn what happens when we do stupid things. The United States of America is in the very midst of doing stupid things. We will pay horribly for it, many will suffer and die because of their ignorance.
When farmers can't get to market people in the cities die but not before they kill to try to survive and not before their government kills to try to stop the carnage. People need to know these things and be prepared for them. People need to understand that they may not always be able to depend on someone else to take care of them. The first to starve will be those that depend on the government for subsistence. People with money and means will be able to purchase their food while the poor will die trying to take it from them.
We could be in for some hard times, prepare for the worst and pray for the best!
They need reparations!
Give em a sack of potatoes! : )
My Polish ancestors who fled the Kulturkampf can attest to that.
The Romans maintained that border for 400 years. They traded across it and raided across it for the entire period. There were tens of thousands of German slaves in the Roman empire throughout the entire period.
Who sacked Rome?
The Visigoths - four hundred years after Rome's first contact with the Cimbri (German/Scandinavian/???).
My Irish Catholic McGinnis family came from Ulster to Livingston Manor (just south of Rennselaer, NY), about 1720 as indentured servants..
All of the males in the family age 10 and up were indentured until age 21...or a certain amount of years..
My 6th ggf Timothy the oldest was about 15 and when he reached 21 and was free he went way up the Mohawk river and became a very successful fur trapper...
He was a Leatherstocking type and fought in the Provincial Army when needed by the British..He married sarah Kast the American born daughter of Palatine Germans who had a trading post amongst the Indians..
He died at Lake George fighting with General Johnson against the French and the Indians (Battle of Bloody Pond, Sept 8 1755 Theres a big stone there at the south end of the lake with a marker for Captain McGinnis)
High info? Hardly, if you fall for this!
My father’s family came from Ireland during the potato famine and my mother’s in the 1880s. Neither family married outside the Irish down to my own generation. My blood is as Irish as anyone’s on the other side, and my family is steeped in Irish Catholic history, counting, as we do, a few priests and a Dominican Mother Superior among our number.
Almost none of the claims of the author stand up under scrutiny, although I demur on the Ann Glover assertion. There is no way on God’s green earth that the Irish kept their mouth shut about 30,000 Irish thrown into shackles by an English king, only to have a crackpot 21st century “historian” dig it up centuries later.
C’mon people. Get a clue.
They settled in parts of the South but the Northern Rhine remained the northernmost boundary of the Empire until well into the fifth century. And as early as the third century, the Alamanni -- early Germans -- kicked the intruders out of the Black Forest region.
