My father’s family came from Ireland during the potato famine and my mother’s in the 1880s. Neither family married outside the Irish down to my own generation. My blood is as Irish as anyone’s on the other side, and my family is steeped in Irish Catholic history, counting, as we do, a few priests and a Dominican Mother Superior among our number.
Almost none of the claims of the author stand up under scrutiny, although I demur on the Ann Glover assertion. There is no way on God’s green earth that the Irish kept their mouth shut about 30,000 Irish thrown into shackles by an English king, only to have a crackpot 21st century “historian” dig it up centuries later.
C’mon people. Get a clue.
