Decorated veterans star in tough new anti-Trump ads (Video)

Decorated veterans are going after Donald Trump’s character in hard-hitting new Florida ads designed to drive down the Republican presidential front-runner’s popularity to stop him winning the crucial winner-take-all state on March 15.

In new attack ads, released by conservative nonprofit American Future Fund within a multimillion-dollar rotation, two veterans, Afghanistan Special Forces Commander Lt. Col. Michael Waltz and retired Vietnam pilot and prisoner of war Lt. Col. Tom Hanton, hit Trump for dodging the draft in Vietnam, “serving only himself,” and for criticizing Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for being captured during the Vietnam War.

American Future Fund spokesman Stuart Roy said in an email to The Hill Saturday that the group is swapping out its current ads in the Florida Panhandle for the new veteran ads and said it "will be adding new money there on Monday, as well."

“The Panhandle is full of active and retired military. Think Eglin Air Force Base, Pensacola Naval Air Station, Hulburt Field, Naval Support Activity Panama City, and Tyndall Air Force Base.”

In one of the ads, Waltz tells viewers to put a stop Trump's campaign.

“Donald Trump hasn’t served this country a day in his life, essentially dodged the draft in Vietnam through multiple deferments,” Waltz says, speaking directly into the camera. “All Donald Trump has served is himself. Don’t let Donald Trump fool you. Look into his real record and stop Trump now."

He failed the physical due to bone spurs. Some seem to imply the doc was paid off although that is not confirmed. So, some consider him a draft dodger. That being said, our Vietnam Veterans are the bravest generation of all. They served knowing once there, our government would abandon them and if they were lucky enough to return home, they would be spit on. Yet they served with honor and dignity. That folks, is a true American Hero!

My husband and brothers are Vietnam Vets. and I can’t name one person I know who wouldn’t have been thrilled to have had a deferment back then. Not easy to say just the truth.

Deferments Helped Trump Dodge Vietnam

Scroll down the the 7th paragraph and it starts telling about all the deferments he got.

No offense but what do I care what some retired military personal thinks of Donald Trump? We don’t live in a military dictatorship.

In the Vietnam war people were lying about their ages to get in and hiding disabilities.. this is sarcasm right?

Insane. Most knew it was a death sentence. Like I said our government abandoned them in that hell hole and they returned to be spit on. Was all this the glory that they were lying about their age and disabilities over? Get real.

Actually he had numerous student deferments, classified 1-A, then took induction physical and reclassified 1-Y (national emergency only). 1-Y classification was at some point dropped with a resulting 4-F classification.

No there there.

Trump had college deferments.(Like a bazillion other people)
Graduation = no more deferments.
He was reclassified 1A and in 1968 went for a physical and was classified 1Y.
The draft turned into a lottery 12/01/69 and was based on birtday.
Trump’s number was 356. That number would never have been called to be drafted.

Do please try to keep up here. The Cruz supporters have been posting ( usually the same articles many times over ! ) a preponderance of pro-CRUZ/anti-Trump threads, here, for many months on end. The number of posts for either candidate doesn’t predict the outcome of the race.

He, along with every other 4 year college student his age, received deferments for the 4 years of college. When he was out of college, they found a bone spur or something that deemed him unfit for service.

THAT is not draft dodging.

I served, did you? And which branch did cruz or rubios serve in?

The bottom line is that he was declared 4-F, end of story.

I did not render judgment either way. I am merely providing info instead of just spouting off. Personally, given his wealth and connections I think it highly likely that he used all legal means to avoid service.

And ultimately it will come down to the definition of “draft dodger”. I would humbly submit (only as one born during the Vietnam era, but who served 20 years later), that to the vast majority of grunts and jarheads bleeding and dying in a shitty jungle, any who used their position of privilege, even legally, did indeed dodge the draft.

Again, with the sick sex angle.

And what exactly are Cruz and Rubio’s magnificent war records, eh? None whatsoever! At least Trump supports the military with time and money over a period of decades while Cruz ‘was the best debater at Harvard,’ boola-boola.

In other words, what have those two jerks done in their lives but climb the greasy pole of government employment?

Someone should ask that Vietnam vet how he feels about the trade deal that gives those commies he was fighting access to US markets in exchange for a promise not to pollute their own country.

Why wouldn’t that number be called to be drafted?

They could be. Being a decorated veteran doesn’t guarantee that someone is virtuous or of good charactre.

Did Cruz ever take deferments to avoid serving? The Donald let other people go in his place.

No, Cruz did not. And if up for the draft, undoubtedly he would have blamed his adenoids for keeping him out. Rubio would have failed as too short for military duty. And his foam boy bona fides may have worked against him.
