When did Free Republic posters turn on Ted Cruz?

Posted on 02/19/2016 6:03:16 PM PST by hardspunned

I've come to this site every day since Ted Cruz became a national political figure. Perhaps I'm just getting old with a failing memory but I can't recall any derogatory posts about Cruz until Donald Trump began his ad hominem attacks on him. I don't remember Freepers attacking him as he built a record in the senate.

Can someone direct me to the threads and posts by the Freepers who now hate Cruz that were made prior to September of last year?

Beats me. This is supposed to be a conservative site. Spouse and I have not donated since this hatefest to Cruz started.

75 posts and no takers. Ted Cruz must have been OK before Donald Trump started. Ted Cruz is the same guy with the same positions as when everyone around here supported him.

Actually I see quite a few takers in this thread. I’m not sure why you can’t see that.

I withdrew my support of Cruz when he decided to campaign for Barack Obama’s trade agenda in the U. S. Senate in April-May. I don’t find campaigning to enable the most lawless POTUS in US history to be principled or conservative. That all predates Trump’s announcement that happened in June. As you can see, Cruz has burned his own bridges with his questionable Senate activities and sleazy win at all costs campaign tactics.

Cruz used to be my guy and I even tried to give him money but his website had quirks or something. Every day after that I got texts and emails begging for more. I felt like a mark.
Then I found out Heidi is CFR and Goldman and SHE begs for money also. She’s so scared.
Then he says he’s a committed Christian and consistently employs dirty tricks against his pops, like the gentle doc Ben Carson.
Turned me completely away.

Natural born citizen status & being born out of the US
Goldman Sachs marriage
Wife’s participation in the Trilateral commission
His lack of charitable giving despite wanting everyone to know he is a Christian.
Failure to disclose loans when he filed for the election despite wanting everyone to know he is a Christian.
Carson deceitful incident in Iowa despite wanting everyone to know he is a Christian.
Deceitful mailer in Iowa despite wanting everyone to know he is a Christian.
Deceitful ads despite wanting everyone to know he is a Christian.
Nixonian mannerisms/creepiness/whiny voice
Constant selling of Christianity
Staff members quitting his campaign and saying he is a phony behind the scenes.

That’s a good summary.

I would add a few more off the top of my head:
Smearing Rubio regarding TPP when Cruz himself enabled TPP with his U. S. Senate votes on TPA
Smearing Trump on caucus day in Iowa.
Cruz Super PAC receiving millions in anonymous, money laundered donations funneled through straw LLCs.
Using Mitch McConnell’s lawyer.

Cruz is running a classic beltway insider win at all costs campaign. Little principled or conservative about it, IMO.

TPA had been in place from 1974 and although it expired in 2992, was still used until 2007.
From Nixon to Bush.
This is not new, and everyone being up in arms about it now, is just more campaign rhetoric.
Cruz had a stipulation that he would support it if the Ex-I’m bank was not included. It was, which is why he changed his support. It is why he called out McConnell.

Cruz is smarter than you give him credit for. And, he’s a lot funnier. He has a self-deprecating humor that the general public will enjoy.. when they get a chance to really see it.

I was for cruise before Trump declared. Sorry, even then cruise was off-putting. He has NO CHANCE in the general. NO CHANCE.

“Ted Cruz helped facilitate the nuclear Iran deal with his support of the Corker Bill.”

You mean the Corker Bill (passing 98-1) that made it law that obama had to release ALL of the information regarding the deal at least xx days before the deal went down. Knowing that obama would not, and he did not.

Thus - making the deal illegal? Of course when Cruz brought this up, the congress deemed to ignore that part, and let it happen anyway.

Nonsense.
Trump and Cruz both can beat HilBern.
I don’t buy it.

So if I don’t like your idols, Rush and Mark, I am not a conservative—LOL says little old you...Well FRend, I think you are deluded and wrong.

In my opinion your idols have shifted...and I am not alone in that position. I have listened to Limbaugh for over 25 years and been a subscriber for at least 8 years.

Oh, my start date sort of is because I have a hunch I have posted a lot more threads than you—conservative threads on Obamacare for example...long before you were even here. So don’t talk to me about being conservative.

I have changed because I know better now who and what the GOPe is and what they are a capable of. Basically we have a Uniparty in DC...no GOPE, no DEMe, just the UNIPARTY of the United States...The votes this year have confirmed that. I like many here held our nose and voted for Mitt because there was no other option...I won’t do that again.

Rush has changed. I find his support of Rubio outrageous. He won’t talk about H-1B Visas. He rarely talks about open borders.

With the Exception of Men in Black, I have bought every Levin book (and his Dad’s too). Levin has said he has not endorsed a candidate yet all he does is attack Cruz detractors and pump up his guy. Sorry...he used to talk about many more issues. Many of us don’t listen any more.

Sorry Pookie, I know it is hard to hear—took me a while to accept what my spouse kept pointing out to me about the GOPe and our beloved “conservative talk leaders.” But in time perhaps either you will come understand or perhaps they will return to honest reporting and commenting on the news.

But for now, you don’t tell me I am not conservative because I don’t bow down to your radio idols.

It was like this for 2000 Bush/McCain, 2008 McCain/Huckabee/Romney, and 2012 Romney/Paul/Santorum...

I expect that if we haven’t fought a Civil War between now and then, we’ll have the same idiotic arguments in 2020/2024 as well.

Cruz supporters calling Trump supporters:

- not “real” Christians
- not “real” conservatives
- not “real” Constitutionalists
- liberal plants
- gullible
- stupid

...etc.... is getting really old. Both camps make fun of each other to varying degrees, but if there’s discord after a Trump win, it’s going to be on you guys. And I hope if Trump wins and you throw tantrums about voting for Bernie or Hillary, you get zotTED.

As plenty of others have said, most Trump supporters around here will vote for Cruz in the general if he wins, myself included. You guys are the ones who keep declaring that you’re going to self-immolate if Ted doesn’t get the nomination.

Grow the hell up.

Cruz says he never supported amnesty...

I did not see "support" for amnesty in that.

He simply said that a wall should be the first thing we worry about, then we can work on amnesty.

A position I fully concur with.

I'm a rabid conservative, I prefer every damned illegal invader be deported right back to whatever fetid swamp they sprang from...but you and I both know that ain't gonna happen...no matter how many times Trump or any one else says it.

So, call it what you will...sooner or later our legislative bodies are going to have to deport as many as possible, keep out as many as possible and then formulate some valid path to citizenship for those that we can.

Call it what you want, I prefer NOT to call it amnesty, but that's what will eventually occur.

Cruz knows this...I know it and if you give it enough thought, you will too.

Now, having said all that, I must say this:

I have not yet made a hard and firm decision on this race yet, with the exception of Rubio and Bush.

I want neither.

And I will diligently work against them.

I'm still studying Trump, Cruz and Carson, with a leaning toward Cruz.

But I do know one thing...I have yet to find an out and out lie from Cruz, whereas, I have seen lies from Trump.

At this point, I'm giving him the benefit of a doubt, as I'm fully aware of how one's views at his position in life can change...and Trump is an opportunist if nothing else.

But here's the bottom, absolute line:Regardless of who the Republican nominee is...that is the person I will vote for.

I will not stay at home out of stupid petulance and allow my non-vote to put a damned socialist or a full-blown lying POS in the Office of the President of the United States of America.

Even Jeb Bush is preferable to Bernie Sanders or that Clinton broad.

Really shameful the way Ted has been treated here.
I thought this was a ‘conservative’ space.
Ted was one of the few who put political capitol on the line for conservative causes, and the Lilliputians around here now seek to kill him.
Perhaps loyalty is no longer a conservative value.
Who knew?

ABout half of the posters in FR will get their panties in a wad no matter who wins the nomination. They will claim that they are the only true believers and will swear not to vote for the nominee ‘as a matter of principle.”

The Republican party has a problem with keeping the loyalty of all the factions. The Democrats never waver in their support of their nominees.

So whoever wins the nomination, he has a good chance to lose and this time we lose the S.Ct for a generation or two and by the time a conservative is elected America will have been transformed into something unrecognizable to me.
