Been here since 98, which is why I don't toss out the "I've been here longer so shut up" tactic that sadly has reared its head a lot lately. When I try it- some class of 97 guy kicks my arse and calls me noob. (yeah, old joke but I laugh)
Been lurking more than posting lately but wonder where we all stand on things in this race and on Free Republic.

1. Betweeen Cruz, Rubio, and Trump only...please list in order of preference if they were your only choices for president.
2. Are the current flame wars on Free Republic the same we always see during a presidential primary season or worse?
3. Of these 5 issues only: Abortion, Homosexual Marriage, Illegal immigration, Muslim refugees, Obamacare... please list in order of most important to stop to least important. (Least important in no way means "not important". Even if an issue is #5 on THIS list, its may still be #5 out of 100 issues for you. Im just comparing to these other 4 for perspective.)

1) Trump - Cruz - no Rubio period. He's totally not ready.
2) It seems worse but maybe because the choices are better so it's intense? But much of it seems nonsense. Pretty bad and not much substantive discussion. So much better candidates than before so feelings get strong. Pretty sad to watch though.
3) Illegal Immigration (without responsible flow and assimilation there will be nothing left to "conserve")

1. Cruz. Will hold my nose and vote for Trump vs Clinton or Sanders. Will not cast a vote for Rubio. You can’t betray your constituents like he did with the Gang of Eight and Immigration and get my vote.
2. A good bit worse this year. A lot of anger at the GOPe for letting it get to the point where a liberal like Trump can get into the GOP race and compete.

1. I’m for Trump, because I think he has the best ideas and best chance to win it all. I am for Cruz second because I agree with almost all he says but worry that the press will get away with going after him. Contrast to Trump who fights back but more importantly they cannot ignore his push back but with Cruz I’m afraid they’ll under-report whatever he says in reply. After these two, in order: Rubio, Fiorina, Carson, Huckabee, Paul, Christie, Santorum, Kasich, YEB. LAST on my list: Bernie. Hillary.
3. No, this Election is not as bad as previous elections have been here. All the previous elections had a lot of good FReepers banned. I really like the fact that Jim Robinson and the moderators aren’t banning people but letting them rant. I can ignore them. Better than losing a good FRiend because he/she backed the “wrong” candidate.
3. Illegal Immigration is killing/has killed our working poor. I’m in Alabama, close to the Black Belt, with many under-employed, low-skilled RURAL Blacks. The illegals are screwing them much more than any other segment of the American people, and those very people who put them on a rhetoric pedestal abandon them to garner Hispanic votes. Pitiful and shameful! A free press would point this out, but hey, votes. For democrats.
Islam is diametrically opposed to the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence. It should be made clear to any and all Muslims that these documents and the culture that espouses them will NEVER be replaced with Sharia. If they cannot abide by that, keep them out! Better still, just keep them out.
Obamacare is screwing us economically. Millions of people on part time wages just to get around the health care requirements. Business will always try to find a way to cut costs if the profits dry up. If ONLY we had a pro-business president and culture, as that would PROMOTE a hiring war as they search for the best employees instead of getting rid of them. We are sooooo screwed by Obamacare. Seriously, death of the American middle class. So many on benefits and getting freebies that the bitter, debt-ridden life isn’t apparent, but it is there.
Abortion is murder. However, women will do what they want to do in a Godless society. I don’t have an answer to this. Why is murder legal? I would ask all lawmakers.
Homosexual marriage became law because a secular society can have secular marriages, so men can marry men and women marry women, but it isn’t right to most religions. The issue became secular when we let government issue marriage licenses and tax benefits rather than letting churches issue marriage licenses. In our country, we do not force people to go to church, believe in God, etc. We should have respect for other views, even atheists. AS LONG as they don’t IMPOSE their belief on us we should not IMPOSE our beliefs on them. That is being eroded away be the social justice warriors on the Left. They need to be opposed directly. There’s a lot more of us than them.

Trump is like chemotherapy - he comes with a lot of side effects, but it may be the only thing that will kill the cancer. Trump may also be the ONLY candidate that has a chance to defeat Madame Klinton.

Its a little worse than usual. The Trump phenomena has been polarizing. Also, because of the popularity of FR over the years, I think perhaps there is less civility among some of the newer members.

I’m a newbie (2014) but have been lurking since the Lewinsky scandal. It could be that you notice it more when you’re actively engaged, but I don’t remember seeing this sheer nastiness, Freeper-toward-Freeper, at any time in the past.
