An elephant dubbed "Rambo" may have been startled or overwhelmed by the heat when it gored a Scottish tourist to death, Thai authorities said.
The pachyderm launched its attack Monday on the resort island of Ko Samui, throwing Gareth Crowe, 36, and his daughter, Eilidh Hughes, to the ground. Rambo then gored Crowe with his tusk and stomped on him.
The animal - who's also known as Golf - became enraged after its trainer, or mahout, climbed off to take a picture of the tourists.
Crowe had a prosthetic leg and was unable to run away from the elephant, officials say.
...
The elephant has been chained to a tree since Monday so officials can monitor its behavior, the Bangkok Post reports. Officials say Rambo will take a 15-day break from work and then be moved to another branch of the trekking company.

Celtic orthography has that effect -- even on human beings.
Remind me again: If they go after Rambo, what's the one thing they shouldn't forget?
If it was because of the heat, the tourist must have been algored to death.

“Tusk.” Singular.

I recall reading a book or story about some hunter that worked in India while they were building railways. Would go after the lions, tigers, elephants that would be a problem in the various camps as they moved ahead. Quite the adventure.
Contrary to what the animal rights people would have everyone believe, the natives out in the wild don’t seem to have a lot of love for them. Elephants can be mean and aggressive and the locals usually don’t have firearms to protect themselves. If an elephant, or a herd of elephants, decide to trample crops and smash a few huts, there’s nothing the natives can do but run and hide.
I saw a TV interview with one tribal leader in Africa. He talked about all the college educated white people who traveled to Africa and who were in love with elephants, but showed no concern for the native population. He called them new white imperialists who were imposing their will on the natives. Pretty much hit the nail on the head there.
Q. How do we know the toothbrush was invented in Arkansas?
A. Anywhere else it would be called a teethbrush.

Another freeper mailed me the above link. It was for the Indian Railway - but no elephants. Amazing the number of people some of the animals killed and ate.

Above is a link to the Tsavo man-eaters that I may or may not have read about! Sounds like there were just two of them - both on display in Chicago now!
Why am I not surprised to find a liberal flying a Massachusetts flag.
More like: if you hold an elephant captive you should not complain about anything you get as a consequence.
