I recall reading a book or story about some hunter that worked in India while they were building railways. Would go after the lions, tigers, elephants that would be a problem in the various camps as they moved ahead. Quite the adventure.

I believe that was the man eating lions of Tsavo,Africa. They had a regular smorgasbord eating Indians, locals, and Chinese workers. The lions were unusual in that they carried their human prey into a cave and ate them there.

In India it was Jim Corbett - read his adventures shooting man eating tigers and leopards in Man-Eaters of Kumaon, and in Africa it was John Henry Patterson with his killer lions in The Man-eaters of Tsavo.which was made into a movie starring Val Kilmer; Ghost in the Darkness. Both books mention elephants.
