An elephant dubbed "Rambo" may have been startled or overwhelmed by the heat when it gored a Scottish tourist to death, Thai authorities said.

The pachyderm launched its attack Monday on the resort island of Ko Samui, throwing Gareth Crowe, 36, and his daughter, Eilidh Hughes, to the ground.

_____

Celtic orthography has that effect -- even on human beings.

Remind me again: If they go after Rambo, what's the one thing they shouldn't forget?

If it was because of the heat, the tourist must have been algored to death.

“Tusk.” Singular.

It’s like Arkansas over there!

Best pickup line in Arkansas...

“Hey, that’s a nice tooth!”

A great book to read is "Jungle Man The Autobiography of Major P.J.Pretorious." He writes about hunting killer elephants in Africa after WW1. One of his gun bearers had his head pulled off by a killer elephant. One of his officer friends was stomped flat into the ground. The only way they found his body was his dogs stayed with the body for days and led him to it. He also writes about a killer baboon that local natives begged him to kill because the baboon would kill the natives and eat their brains. Folks just have to remember that wild animals are just that.

Contrary to what the animal rights people would have everyone believe, the natives out in the wild don’t seem to have a lot of love for them. Elephants can be mean and aggressive and the locals usually don’t have firearms to protect themselves. If an elephant, or a herd of elephants, decide to trample crops and smash a few huts, there’s nothing the natives can do but run and hide.

I saw a TV interview with one tribal leader in Africa. He talked about all the college educated white people who traveled to Africa and who were in love with elephants, but showed no concern for the native population. He called them new white imperialists who were imposing their will on the natives. Pretty much hit the nail on the head there.

Elephants shouldn’t be held captive.

My friend just went to Thailand for a 3 week vacation on Monday. She plans on going to the elephant sanctuary. What timing she has. I wonder if they will let anyone in for awhile.

I rode one of those elephants during one of my trips to Thailand. I always enjoyed my time there. Never could convince the wife to retire there.
