I'm listening to Kudlow's Money Talk on the radio. Larry, the host is furious at Ted Cruz for making his remarks. This has become almost a Rorschach Test where everyone gives their own interpretation on exactly what Ted was saying. I know what he was referring to, the New York that would elect Bill de Blasio, had elected Bloomberg, and Hillary to office long before that. These people were elected in spite of their hard left leanings. Ted was speaking of people like Governor Andrew Cuomo, who said "Pro Gun Supporters have no place in the state of New York. Who can forget about the "artpiece" featuring a crucifix dropped into a large jar of urine.
Larry was saying Cruz has ruined his chances and should leave the race. He said Trump 'eviscerated' Cruz in his responses. Some follow up callers disagreed with him, saying to forgive someone for a mistake is the Christian thing to do, vs disowning that person completely.
I don't know many individuals actually from New York, the city or the state. Are any of you more familiar with citizens of this state? Are most this sensitive to negative remarks? Do they still see themselves as the cultural centerpiece of the country?
Liberal cesspool NY is full of vain idiots who seem to think 9/11 happened only to them and not flight 93 and DC.
They also equate the response to the terrorist attack with their own values, which is incorrect as New York values are very self serving “me first, then maybe you because I’m NY”.
(Seriously, look at the instantaneous “but, 9/11!” response to criticism of NY. Craven attempt to deflect honest and truthful criticism by invoking an act of monstrous evil dealt to many.)
No, New York values are hard core liberalism, abortion, homosexual marriage, gun bans, soda bans, higher taxes, mock outrage, corrupt politicians perpetually elected to office, conservatives being told they don’t belong, and a sense of entitlement beyond belief.
That is what conservatives must contend with every day in this “great state”.
Trump is definitely an Alinskyite. Distract. He goes around explaining away his love affair with liberalism in the past and how he is no longer that way but he goes deaf when he has to have what Cruz said explained to him and his idiotic sycophants. All he has to do is listen. And then apologize to Cruz.
He didn’t smear them all. He started out saying many wonderful people live there. I though FR was for conservatives, Trump is not a conservative by any stretch of he imagination.
I did NOT just see all those elephants in the middle of the room. I’m sure it must have been a dream, a very bad, worrisome dream!
Well said, great post, NY is the center of "What's in it for me?
trump would not even outlaw third trimester abortion! I can’t believe one person this site would support this blow hard over a real conservative like Cruz. This country is screwed.
Cruz has always been a proud Texan. There was that story when he was going up to Canada for debates and staying over at a Canadian friend’s house he would tell the parents how proud he was of Texas, and how large it was... I think the Canadians got a kick out of that since Ontario is larger than Texas.
Cruz also has a Canadian part of his identity, that is more a legal issue than a cultural one. While crossing the boarder his friend would joke that Cruz was a duel citizen.
I really believe that the Canadian issue is what lead him to become obsessed with the constitution and law as I think Cruz always wanted to be President.
The other thing about Cruz’s bio that is striking is that the boy is a genius. At 18 this half-Cuban, kinda dorky kid, makes the move to Princeton, and from there to Harvard law... Graduates and goes to clerking at the Supreme court... Along the way he becomes a champion debater... Now thats extraordinary. Not exactly rags to riches, but Cruz proves that ANYONE can make it in America if you got the brains, the guts, and the work ethic.
The above is what I love about Cruz, and what I love about Trump, and Carson!... They are extraordinary people, the kind of people who made America great!
The same can’t be said for Rubio, the slick charismatic lawyer, or Jeb! the living embodiment of establishment nepotism... And Christie? The only thing extraordinary about him is his appetite and lack of shame.
But Cruz and Trump are different... They represent different aspects of the American dream and now they have come to blows... That’s politics.
Iron Sharpens Iorn. I believe whomever wins the battle between these two great men will be the nominee..
So he’s Canadian...until he’s Texan...or Cuban.
Trump and/or his supporters have now claimed all three.
It just occurred to me that the whole NY values thing. Maybe he pulled a trump there and left it to cause a huge stir and get everyoneâs attention, to be walked back.
911 was an American values issue.
Absolutely. I’m sure Cruz is thrilled we are talking about something besides his Canadian birth certificate. He was sinking like a rock when that was front and center in the polls.
I am astonished of all these expert financial folks as well as all the super intelligent(they think) journalists that do not know the difference between character(911 and the heroic actions of NY’ers) and values (abortion, morals, politics, homos, etc).
Two entirely different human traits which in this case are polar opposites. Their character, both personal and that of the city as a whole, is what survived and rebuilt ground zero. Their values are what elects their communist mayor, promotes homosexuality and abortion.
Not a lot of evangelicals come from Cuba......what an idiot Trump is.
Cruz is a rock.
LOL...you mean SINKING like a rock.
Deblasio is NY values. On 9/11 many NYers got some semblance of sense slapped into them. Sadly most soon forgot. If Trump is going to be behind flashing 9/11 pictures to take down Cruz, I want no part of him! As a NYer Cruz is right!
Hey!! He was born NEAR the USA ;-)
Pretty much.
And that’s a sad thing.
Which they take pride in, for some reason.
Welcome to the New Free Republic... Where Conservatism is in the process of being replaced by Populism.
Up until the last debate I was willing to say that if Trump wins the nomination, I will vote for Trump vs Hillary.
I have firmly changed my mind. Not only does he have liberal history, he attacks like a liberal as well. I firmly believe he will be bad for this nation.
If Trump wins, I will write in Ted Cruz on my ballot.
So an American soldier serving in Iraq gives birth in Iraq to an Iraqi?
I thought conservatives were smarter than that! This site is still for conservatives right?
That half-a-___ is probably on Trump’s secret payroll.
I would still vote for him over Hillary just because of the courts.
But anyone thinking he is a conservative or even a moderate, is scary.
His comments had to do with New York values.
Those would be the values of the people of New York.
Whatever you think of how liberal they are, and how they support this or that, and how they elected this guy or that guy, those are indeed the people who ran towards certain death in order to rescue and help others.
Those are indeed the people who dug people out of the rubble of Hell, and many of whom died for their efforts years later due to being exposed to whatever was in there.
Trump is, in fact, correctly pointing out that the values Ted Cruz is insulting are in fact the same values that caused people of New York to respond on that day and days after as they did.
Trump is, as usual, right.
And quite frankly, Ted Cruz stepped in a pile of dog poop that is going to stick to his shoe for a long time, and really, the guy is too smart by half.
