The 18-year-old victim and her father were walking through Osborn Playground in Brownsville at around 9 p.m. Friday when the two were approached by five men, investigators said.
One man brandished a gun and told the teenager's father to leave the area, police said. The girl's father then ran for help, but by the time he returned with two police officers, the five men had raped the teenager and fled, authorities said.

The girl’s father ran for help? He abandoned his daughter who was clearly threatened? He was no father. A real father would have fought to the death to protect his daughter.

I assume you are not from Illinois. If you are an Illinois citizen and have CCW you can indeed carry in Chicago, except on or into certain properties that are specifically identified by the statute or by posted notice.

I have a home in Bloomington, IL but am now a resident of GA. Illinois has no reciprocy. I’m told I can still get a license with a canceled bill, and maybe I will.

The father also shares blame for being in such an area at night if he wasn’t prepared to defend his daughter. I live in a safe area, and would not walk around my block at night. Evil creatures love the night. People need to realize that being out unarmed at night is like walking on the guardrail of a bridge. They may be able to do it, but it’s awful risky.

Now if they forced the father to stay and watch, you could argue that he should have fought to the death despite the near impossible odds. But they told him to leave which gave him a chance to try to get real help for his daughter. He made the correct decision.
I gave my 38 revolver to my daughter last fall when she went off to college. My dad gave it to me when i went off on my own.
She was glad to have it. It’s a gun free zone but she don’t care. Her roommate was always packing to.
If you have a concealed carry permit, you can carry your .38 in your car in Chicago.
I’ve got three daughters, one about to turn 18. I hurt for the girl, but also for the father. I don’t know how he will live with his cowardice. They would have had to try to kill me before getting at one of my girls, but that’s me. I can’t imagine leaving one of my daughters to face that hell by herself in the dark.
How is he going to fight 5 armed thugs when NYS and NYC denies him the right to carry anything to protect his daughter with?
If they kept him there during the attack fighting to the death might make sense, but when they told him to leave, wasting the opportunity to try to get effective help for his daughter would be foolish.
