Windows 7 runs on 55% of all the computers on the planet, but according to news this week that is actually a bad and potentially dangerous thing. Says who? Actually Microsoft. . .
Speaking to Windows Weekly, Microsoft Marketing chief Chris Capossela explained that users who choose Windows 7 do so "at your own risk, at your own peril" and he revealed Microsoft has concerns about its future software and hardware compatibility, security and more.
"We do worry when people are running an operating system that's 10 years old that the next printer they buy isn't going to work well, or they buy a new game, they buy Fallout 4, a very popular game, and it doesn't work on a bunch of older machines," Capossela stated. "And so, as we are pushing our ISV [Independent Software Vendor] and hardware partners to build great new stuff that takes advantage of Windows 10 that obviously makes the old stuff really bad and not to mention viruses and security problems."
He also stressed it is "so incredibly important to try to end the fragmentation of the Windows install base" and to get users to a "safer place."
There's only one problem with Capossela's statements: they are complete rubbish.

Oh great, Crapossela is trying to scare us onto Windows 10.

Win10 can’t handle my legacy software.
If printer manufacturers are stupid enough to make their printers NON-COMPATIBLE with 55% of the world’s computers then they deserve to go bankrupt.
I went out and paid extra for a win seven installed computer.
I just downloaded Win10. Going to install it in a virtualbox on my Mac. Mostly to see what it’s about, and to maybe run one or two games. I’m never going back to PCs though.
Yes. It won’t let the Feds monitor your computer like 10 will. Tell me I’m wrong.
Somebody’s got to say it. Why are you all still using Windows at all? Get Linux on your systems, never look back...
Christmas eve I purchased a beautiful Lenovo touch screen. After taxes, 1000 bucks.
Two days later I Installed Windows 10 updates. Wi-Fi never worked again. Internal tests then show mother board errors asking me to open tickets with Lenovo.
I already have a job. Paying a thousand dollars to start fixing a PC wasn’t on my Christmas list. I got my money back and I’ll wait for windows 11.
What the heck has happend? Have we hit a point that Windows is too complex to fit all the hardware? Maybe it works on the Surface pro, and all other installs are force fits?
I really detest government intrusion into so much of our lives, but I think one small, simple law could fix much of the Microsoft fear-mongering and strong arm tactics that they use.
Require ALL software vendors to have a prominent, clear, window message option to disable ALL self-reporting options and apps. When the user selects this option, not 1 bit of data will be uploaded to the vendor. Violation of this law is a $500,000 fine per violation.

And if someone just reinstalled Windows 7 RTM off the DVD they would have a 10-year old operating system. Well, until the first 150 updates ties up their bandwidth for the next few days. They are such self-serving liars, always have been, but now everyone knows it.

Exactly what someone selling a new operating system would say.
It is also exactly what someone attempting to move their user base to the most compromised version of the OS, at the strong urging of NoSuchAgency, would say.
Very few people want any part of their metrosexual operating system on anything better than a tablet, but even less would if they knew how deeply Microsoft got in bed with the Feds. They were and are the first and primary, voluntary and willing PRISM partner.

Ten years old? I bought my computer in 2008 and it came with Vista.
I had Vista on my PC too. I upgraded to 7 a few months ago. It was worth it. Cost about 100 bucks.
Runs really good.
Thank God, after the upgrade, it couldn’t upgrade to buggy 10. Hardware is too old.
My windows machine is ONLY for my flight simulator software. I bought a big processor, GPU, etc. so I could run the latest sim, with purchased add-ons for the most realistic experience.
8.1 came on it, and it worked just fine. Just last week, I upgraded to 10. It works great. Even some drivers for some issues got fixed. I’ve got zero problems with it, and I actually like the new layout.
Security issues are always a problem, but I don’t care. Hell, they know enough about me already. I shut off any “communication” choices I could find, but whatev. It’s good enough, I’m loving it. I’m going with it. Also, my machine is only on when I’m using the sim, or messing with the sim.
Runs really well, too. Snappy performance. Better than 8.1 performance. YMMV.
For my every day internet use, I’m on Apple products.
