Nadine is loaded with intelligent "assistant" software similar to Siri and Cortana, with her own moods and emotions. She can also remember the people she'd met before and the contents of their conversation.

Professor Thalmann's robotic doppelganger was developed to become a personal assistant or a companion for kids and the elderly in the future. She believes social robots like her creation could eventually become real-life C-3POs "with knowledge of language and etiquette." For now, she and her team are putting Nadine to work as a receptionist at the university

The most recent comment right now is, “Adele never looked this creepy before.”

I completely agree.

The robot over uses the same arm gestures over and over. Including arm gestures with almost any vocal response, even when not required. It’s a beginning, but the head movements are still rigid and birdlike. I still think of those Fortune Teller vending machines where the costumed Gypsy sits inside her glass compartment, waiting for you to drop a quarter in the slot. We need to think of new ways to use all the displaced people who will be put out of easy employment.
This is about to get very serious and consequential within the next 15 years.

That thing is the mayor of Uncanny Valley! Burn it with fire! Better yet, take off and nuke it from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure!

It’s got man-hands.

That was the problem in Westworld, too.

Yes, it looks like the bulk of the effort was directed to the “AI”

Most of the Japan bots at least look somewhat passable. I don’t know what these people were thinking. I mean there’s nothing wrong with making something like someone’s granny. But for God sakes make it look like something other than Norman Bates’ mother.

I suspect that the "cartoon robot" look will be the ultimate choice for these things

Though the Japanese do get an "A" for effort with their humanoids

I think all one has to do is look at anime like Ghost in the shell.

Personally I think they will ultimately be indistinguishable as tech allows. In the beginning I agree that cartoon will likely be the intro. But Sex drove the growth of the net and it will drive robot development. Gen X grew up on sci fi shows with humanoid bots so it’s not so big a deal. Y and later are fine with it. Boomers are primarily the most resistant to real looking bots I think.
