Monday on NewsmaxTVâs âThe Steve Malzberg Show,â former White House chief of staff to President George H. W. Bush and former Gov. John H. Sununu (R-NH) said if Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump wins the nomination Republicans will get swept in national elections in 2016.

"Expected conservatism
At the time of Souter's appointment, John Sununu assured President Bush and conservatives that Souter would be a "home run" for conservatism.[14] In his testimony before the Senate, he was thought by conservatives to be a strict constructionist on constitutional matters..."
The same prediction was leveled against Ken Cuccinelli in Virginia re impact on state offices. He came very close to winning in 2013. Lack of national GOP support was the difference. If our Presidential nominee loses, it will likely be due to the same reason or a turnout issue. The nominee’s demeanor or positions will only help unless we get a squish...
Don’t disagree w sununu being a part of the GOPe problem, but he’s definitely right re the presidency. If Trump is the nominee he will lose handily to Hillary.
Picture this: first debate....general election, not a primary of pissed off republicans. He makes some stupid ass comment about Hillary bleeding or her looks or something equally stupid. The election is over at that point. The media firestorm amongst THE GENERAL ELECTRATE will guarantee it. And the problem is, he can’t help it. He’s a bloviating loudmouth New Yorker...it’s how they breathe.
Hopefully after the next election a few more will!
Picture further, the possibility of a Trump / Palin ticket.
:D
Just to rile things up, a step further. Mind you that is (entirely) just conjecture on my part.
Sununu said that if Trump is the nominee, we lose â as Republicans we lose the Senate, we lose most of the House and we lose the presidency. Interpretation: if Bush is the nominee, we win - as Republicans we keep the Senate, we keep most of the House and we win the presidency.
If Trump is elected and fulfills his expectations, I expect we will lose the Senate and the House when all those Rinos and Democrats hiding out as Republicans will leave and join the Democrats, diluting the progressives and recapturing their party from the radicals.
Sounds like a win to me.
Next thing we know, David Souter will be echoing Sununu’s comments.
Yep. I despise this game that they play, pretending that "their" version of the Republican Party is the Way It Has Always Been, and that anyone that seems overly conservative is just some foaming-at-the-mouth radical.
NEVER have I heard one of the establishment crowd even hint that the party has drifted leftward (albeit more slowly than the Democrats' headlong plunge into Marxism). If it ever comes up in an interview (which is rare), they bloviate and skirt the issue.
Bush won New Hampshire in 1988. If you mean 1992, Bush lost by less than 1% when Perot took 22% of the vote. Not a great year for Republicans anywhere.
Reagan won 49 states, Trump is putting together the same coalition. Blue collar Reagan Dems, independents , women who donât like Hillary, Union guys like Teamsters, Veterans, Military, minorities who know he is the only candidate who wants to bring jobs back because Trump is against the Cheap labor Express.
Maybe. The fear, though, is that it's all a house of cards that will collapse before the election.
“In other words, everything will be just like it is now.”
Beat me to it.
If [McCain] Is the Nominee, the GOP [did] Lose Senate, House and Presidency
If TRUMP wins the nomination, those of us who back CRUZ will vote for TRUMP as well as Carson supporters and some Rubio backers.
The only ones staying home or crossing party lines is the GOPe and their candidates’ polls are next to nil.
Sununu is blinded by his bias.
I do not vote for liberals. I will not vote for Trump.
So what. I’d rather go down in flames.
What's his FR nick?
There is the problem in a nutshell. They are in for a rude awakening because the GOP will become an empty shell without Trump.
Dear Gov. Sununu.... Phooey.
The Bushies and their best buds have already trashed the Republican party.
