Terrorists use terrorism because it works, although not against everybody. The Soviet Union’s flaws were without number, but the effete, obsequious squeamishness that characterizes the current American approach to Islam was not among them. From 1986:
The Jerusalem Post said the Soviet secret police last year secured the release of three kidnaped Soviet diplomats in Beirut by castrating a relative of a radical Lebanese Shia Muslim leader, sending him the severed organs and then shooting the relative in the head.
The incident began when four Soviet diplomats were kidnaped last September by Muslim extremists who demanded that Moscow pressure the Syrian government to stop pro-Syrian militiamen from shelling rival Muslim positions in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli.
The militiamen, the Jerusalem paper said, did not cease their attacks, and the body of one of the Soviet diplomats, Arkady Katkov, was found a few days later in a field in Beirut.

Because they know better.
I remember reading about this. At the same time, our embassies and personnel were constant targets. All attacks against the Russians ceased.
I think the answer here is along the lines of why atheists and the ACLU don’t sue muslims.
If a Russian spoke English with a redneck accent, he would say to the terrorist after the severing, and before the shot in the head, holding the two up, “ You ain’t gonna be much good to them virgins without these, boy, if I can still call you that...”
There's nothing unique about the Russian approach towards hostage-taking (i.e. reciprocity). It was the medieval practice until much of the West decided that such methods were too uncivilized to perpetuate.
You might just be confusing one enemy for another due to current circumstances.
Ask yourself, would you feel safer living in Russia than wherever you now live?
The Russians no longer have a problem with the Muslims in Chechnya. They cleaned them out.....both the Muslim men and women were treated and killed indiscriminately.
Kill them and throw them into large pens with feral hogs, and post the video on the internet. That will get their attention.
Because they know the Russians would cut off their diminutive cojenes and feed them to their goat harem.
Only the Muslin traitor in the WH could make me admire the Russians.

I was watching a documentary about the Moscow theater terrorist attack that happened a few years back.
The Spetznaz did a spectacular job of assaulting the place and killing all the terrorists. Unfortunately they weren’t trained in how to deal with the effects of what is believed to have been BZ gas and 130 of the hostages died without the terrorists firing a single shot or detonating a single bomb. (minus 2 killed early in the siege) The fact that the government wouldn’t disclose what the gas was prevented treatment as well.
They took the hostages out and laid them on their backs to recover from the gas but it was exactly the wrong thing to do. They suffocated laying there on the ground. The hostages would have been better off if the troops had laid them on their side or even left them in their seats in the theater.
It was really kind of surprising to see them speaking so openly about such a bad screw up.
That’s not the point, of course no sane freedom loving person would want to live under Communist rule. But when dealing with terrorist, the Russians don’t care about being PC, they care about results. And would never consider wearing kit gloves in dealing with these bearded savages. They don’t play games, they raise the stakes (all in) right off the bat. You will lose more people than they will.
When the Russians used chemical agents at the theater where 40 armed terrorist were holding about 850 hostages, when they raided it they even head shot the terrorist who’d lost consciousness.

back in the ‘good old days’ - think it was during the Carter years and the Arabs were grabbing a diplomat now and then - plus the Embassy and they made the mistake of grabbing a Russian.
Apparently the Russians grabbed one of ‘theirs’ and started sending body parts back to the country involved.
The Russians had no more problems.
Thinking of Carter hiding in the Rose Garden after having his hat handed to him makes him more of a ‘man’ that the present pResident who continues playing the charade.
Round about the same time there was a ‘running joke’ about every time the Russians arrested an American for spying, the Americans arrested a couple of Americans for spying.
Btw that was an extremely brutal no win. They knew at the onset it would get ugly due to the number of armed terrorist with explosives and how the hostages were confined. They didn’t do too bad everything considered. But still an ugly scene. Russia does not have a history of playing games with their enemies in conflicts such as this.
Truth for most patriots on here...
