As the Republican candidates life story comes under increasing scrutiny, it has become clear that Carson is missing an essential value I learned in the army.
As a private in basic training, I learned the Army Values. We were issued a plastic card, on which they were listed: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. For any inspection, until I left the military as a sergeant, that card was a required item.
The US army still teaches the Army Values to every soldier. Its a cheesy, motivational speaker esque acronym that spells 'LDRSHIP'. But it is also useful for teaching new troops, many of whom enter the military with little direction or understanding of what soldiering requires.
The Army Values can be learned in any walk of life. Even running for the presidency. But one such value, integrity, seems to have escaped one Republican candidate altogether.
Ben Carsons personal story is in question, and rightly so. There was the Popeyes stick up in Baltimore that likely never happened, according to Baltimore police. The snake oil company Carson claimed he never shilled for, despite readily availably video evidence of Carson schilling for snake oil. The brutally violent attacks he committed during his childhood that no one who grew up with him can seem to remember. And, of course, a claim that he was offered a 'scholarship' to the United States Military Academy by General William Westmoreland, but turned it down to go to Yale.
'There is no such thing as being 'offered a full scholarshipâ at West Point,' recalls Frederick Wellman, a West Point alumnus who served for 22 years, obtained a graduate degree from Harvard University and now leads ScoutComms, an agency advocating for veterans. 'You apply. You get in. Meeting a general doesnt get you in.'

this is ridiculous.
If General Westmorland sent in the name of a young man he thought should be considered for West Point ya think they would not seriously look at him?
I can understand how a lot of attention and praise from ROTC leaders, interspersed with a few ‘you good go to West Point for free’ statements could impress a 17 year old Carson. These people are ‘recruiters’, and they will fill a young kid with a lot of grandiosity.
I don’t think the West Point statement by Carson is a big deal.
USMA ‘92
Honestly, I don’t think Carson ever even spoke to Gen. Westmoreland.
Preemptive strike. I like it ! :)
mmm lets look at your candidate Cruz's integrity. Magically once he started running for Presdient, his positions changed. Hnmmm how we we suppose to Trust Cruz to keep his word?

My opinion of Dr Carson hasn’t really changed much one way or another. I had no opinion of Richard Allen Smith, having never heard of him but I now consider him an egotistical pile of sh*t.
This guy worked for Obama In 2008. See his Linkedin.
Some guy tries to play the "veteran" card and suddenly I am s'posed to hate Ben Carson and think he is a liar?
This is way beyond stupid. No person with integrity would ever say or write something like this. Was Richard Allen Smith really in the Army?
An Army vet writing for extreme Leftist UK News paper “the Guardian”
Consider the cesspool he is diving into, I doubt we can take this article seriously., Obviously this auhtor has NO political integrity.
Ah! Thanks for the info about the author’s “Linked In” account...and Obama supporter from 2008, eh?
No wonder he hates Ben Carson.
A liberal racist. Is there any other kind?
There are various reasons of policy and experience to not support Carson, and I don’t. However, the dirty Political attack and the decorations at Carson’s house have nothing to do with it.
I don’t support dirty tricks - I didn’t like it when they did it to Palin, when they tried it with Trump, or the others, and same with Carson.
When you think about it - Carson supports TPP and Puerto Rican statehood. Why is the left attacking him? Because he’s a black off the reservation.
It’s the way one veteran feels about someone repeatedly telling a story to make the reader think something that never happened.
The full article explains the vets views and why he feels as he does.
Carson is a freaking weirdo.
Only Cruz or Trump for me.
The Guardian is a far-left rag. I hate to see Freepers citing it as a source, but then, I hate to see conservatives hating on each other. How childish. Hillary is our enemy.
The WP website refers to scholarships. Someone posted it in the last day or so.
The vet is buying into what Politico is selling.
At least that’s the way I see it.
Good luck with making anyone think Cruz has ever supported birthright citizenship.
BTW< you never have told me why you support TPP along with Carson and Rubio.
