Bill Nye demolishes climate deniers: “The single most important thing is .... climate change."
Salon ^ | November 6, 2015 | Sean Illling

Posted on 11/08/2015 12:47:28 PM PST by CedarDave

On Nov. 10, Bill Nye will release a new book titled “Unstoppable.” As only Bill Nye can, he uses the book to explain the science behind climate change, debunks popular myths, and asks readers to take action in their own lives to create a sustainable future. The book is shot through with optimism, but Nye has no illusions about what lies ahead. The message is simple: Climate change is real; humans are causing it; and we have no choice but to build a better and cleaner world.

Salon spoke with Nye about his new book and about his broader intentions. We asked him what he thought about climate deniers and the persistent anti-science demagoguery around this issue. Our conversation is below and has been edited for clarity and length.

So why did you write this book? Why now? And what’s your central message?

My goal is to change the world! Really, that’s what I’m trying to do. Obviously, this book isn’t going to change the world, but it is part of the bigger idea that we all have to think optimistically about this. We’ve got to go into this knowing we have a hard challenge but that we’re going to win this fight, and we’re going to save the earth for humanity.

Bill Nye has a b.s. degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University. Nye began his career in Seattle at Boeing, where, among other things, he starred in training films and developed a hydraulic pressure resonance suppressor for the 747. Later, he worked as a consultant in the aeronautics industry.

That is the extent of his professional scientific background. As “Bill Nye the Science Guy”, he was an entertainer, not a scientist.

Absolutely nothing in his background about climate science, climatology or meteorology. So his opinions on the matter are no more or less than “experts” who talk about alien visitors to Earth.

Bill Nye thoroughly debunks the climate change skeptics: “The heart of socialism cries out for justice against these vicious animals, the climate-change deniers! There is only one punishment suitable for them! I demand that these mad dogs be shot! Every last one of them!”

‘Speed Walker’ is full of sh*t. Nye is a comedian and a chronic attention whore; why take him seriously?

“The single most important thing we can do now is talk about climate change”

The single most important thing we can do right now is laugh at idiots like Bill Nye.

The solution is what Nye wants - a global socialist/Marxist government with a dear leader to control all human life and resources. He can kiss my patootie.

I wish people would stop posting articles from Salon. Just reading the headlines from Salon makes you stupider.

Salon is concentrated idiocy.

The single most important thing we can do now is start shooting Islamists. Man caused "climate change" is utter garbage.

Bill Nye is a China Denier, and an Islam Denier.
Neither of those two entities give a rip about Bill’s pet hobbyhorse.

and even that is a small percentage of the actual atmosphere- here again there would need to be a thick continuous blanket of water vapor over the world in order to bounce enough heat back to earth to cause any kind of change in daily temps- and this obviously isn’t the case, the vast majority of the atmosphere has no cloud cover at any given moment- meaning most the heat escaping the planet has nothing I n the atmosphere to prevents it’s complete escape

Bill Nye is a self-important blow hard know-nothing!

Bill Nye has a degree in electrical engineering.

Wait, he does? Hmmm. I might have to give him more consideration...

I believe it is a mechanical engineering degree.

Ah hah! I knew it! Ignore him!

The stupid burns hot in this goofball. Toward the end of the article, he speaks of the US building the best solar panels and the best wind turbines. Here’s the rub, none of the raw materials to build these technological miracles comes by was of green energy. The steel and the glass, along with all the tubing and electronics come to life using fossil fuels. Without fossil fuels, green energy can’t produce enough power to ring an alarm clock to get you up in the morning. I would bet that in the lifetime of wind turbine, it doesn’t generate enough power to replace all that went into creating the turbine and all that went into its birth.

Flipping through channels today, I ran into Nye - the huckster guy - while he was on a bash the tar sands binge... while flying over in a spiffy new helicopter flown by another "activist".

As I posted in #90, Nye is an Islam Denier.

Islam doesn't gives a rip about "climate change" - but it WILL saw Nye's head off, and the heads of the rest of his climate SJWs, when Islam outbreeds the stoopids in the West.

The left doesn’t actually believe in evolution. They use it as a shibboleth for secular materialism. In fact, the left’s view of human nature, derived from Rousseau and Marx, has even less in common with the account of human nature derived from a thoroughgoing embrace of neo-Darwinism than does the view of human nature grounded in direct Creation and the Fall. Fallen Man when he gives himself over to the passions is remarkably ape-like. And whether one takes Genesis straight, Darwin straight, or harmonizes them as most Jews and most adherents of Christian confessions that existed before 1500 do, there is no support for the left’s project of perfecting Man by perfecting society to be found in the gloomy view of human nature (in the absence of Grace) provided by any of those accounts.

Nor does the left actually believe in anthropogenic climate change, or in science as a whole. The only believe what is expedient at any given time to the project of expanding the power of the state, under the control of persons like-minded to themselves.

You have no facts to support your statement. Very little of the heat travels directly to space (5 to 6%), which is good because otherwise we would be in an unending ice age.

There is no disputing that CO2 contributes to more heat retained in the upper atmosphere. There is no way to tell what the net result of this additional heat is. No one has successfully predicted any measurable effect. But that doesn’t matter to Bill Nye anymore than it does to you, because neither one of you is interested in finding a win win.

There is however a way to tell if a scientist or politician is serious about this issue. They will put 100% of their effort into nuclear power, as that is the only reliable, safe, ecologically sound energy source that would have any measurable effect on CO2 concentration. It also would have the benefit of driving economic growth, which would raise everybody’s standard of living. But then again, it is more fun to gripe about non-serious celebrities while they gripe about you. Just look at how much better we all feel about ourselves!
