Last week changes to the Windows 10 upgrade path mean it is going to become increasingly difficult for any non-techy users to avoid being pushed to Microsoft new operating system. But given Windows 10 is better than Windows 7 and Windows 8, why would that be a problem? Because of policies like thisâ¦
Speaking to PC World, Microsoft Corporate Vice President Joe Belfiore explained that Windows 10 is constantly tracking how it operates and how you are using it and sending that information back to Microsoft by default. More importantly he also confirmed that, despite offering some options to turn elements of tracking off, core data collection simply cannot be stopped:
âIn the cases where weâve not provided options, we feel that those things have to do with the health of the system,â he said. âIn the case of knowing that our system that weâve created is crashing, or is having serious performance problems, we view that as so helpful to the ecosystem and so not an issue of personal privacy, that today we collect that data so that we make that experience better for everyone.â
This backs up detailed data that some had chosen to dismiss as conspiracy theories.

I like my WIN7 Prof and new laptop. It should last at least as long as the newest gem in the MicrostuffIT product line.
I’m sorry Dave, I cannot allow you to disconnect me.
Dayglored, Shadow Ace gave me a heads up on this. . . this needs a ping to your Ping list ASAP. Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President Joe Belfiore admitted that users cannot disable the tracking installed on Windows 10, even if they turn off all the user options for such tracking. “core data collection simply cannot be stopped. . .” Translation: you will be watched. OOPS! I wonder if one can just turn off WIFI, disconnect Ethernet, Bluetooth, etc., do all that, will MS Windows 10 just refuse to operate??? LOL!
Predecessor to Skynet????
I guess I should go to Linux mint or Ubuntu. The only thing I really use windoze for is to run Sony Vegas for video editing and watching DVDs.
I liked HAL!
Winston Smith please phone home. Or better yet, stay where you are cause MS knows where you are and what you are doing.
They’re are making it hard to embrace 10, even though it’s possibly their best os yet. So much bad pr as far as the eye can see. Their dumb moves are similar to mistakes made with Xbox 1 rollout, which is falling further behind the ps4 by the month.
Hey, me too. Good software package.
I am running an older version and so I am sticking with XP for now.
I blocked a bunch of stuff at the Netgear Router. I cannoty put it past Microsoft to use dynamic updating of its call home list.
FUGates
I stopped it using Red Hat
Turn the computer off. Voila!
I liked HAL too. . . very sympathetic as he was put down. But HAL was totally amoral.
I’ve learned to really like Vegas editor. It beats Pinnacle. It can handle 4k raw video extremely well.
I LITTERALLY just downloaded it an hour ago. I have a legacy IMB Thinkpad that I wanted to use, and thought maybe Linux was the way to go. I’ve been learning Linux on a Raspberry Pi. It’s been fun.
I get why the Linux community likes it better. Windows, in a very real sense, keeps you stupid about how your computer works. Many, many people don’t care how it works. I get that.
However, once you know, wow is Linux easier to use and maintain.
Sure it can. Go back to XP or upgrade to Linux.
I hate Microsoft, and I want them to die.
