Florida poll shows Trump in front, with Bush’s help

MIAMI — Donald Trump remains the clear frontrunner in Florida and, a new poll of likely Republican voters shows, he can partly thank the unlikeliest of people for that: Jeb Bush.

With the former Florida governor in the crowded primary for president, Trump leads with a solid 27 percent support, with Sen. Marco Rubio a distant second at 16 percent, followed by Dr. Ben Carson (15 percent), and Sen. Ted Cruz and Bush (about 12 percent each), according to Viewpoint Florida’s newly released survey of 2,047 likely Republican voters in the state.

Without Bush in the race, Trump has a problem: He gets no added benefit, but Rubio’s support jumps up so that he almost ties the frontrunner, 24-27 percent. The rest of the GOP field is essentially unchanged.

Without Rubio in the race, however, Trump’s lead ticks up a percentage point, to 28 percent. But Bush doesn’t then come in second. Instead, Carson and Cruz vie for second place and Bush remains in fourth, with 17 percent support.

So Bush is just a plant to help Trump win Florida over Rubio.

If so, I LOVE IT!!!

...but seriously, if we’re going to start removing people like Bush from the equation, how about removing Carson and Cruz too? Then let’s see just how close this race is.

I LOVE the irony of the GOPe splitter game plan hurting their boys (Bush and Rubio).

I suspect this poll will be a very big nail in the coffin of the Bush campaign. If he is the splitter in key states and Trump is the beneficiary then the establishment will smother the baby in the crib before Iowa.

That Bush ties Cruz for 4th/5th in his home state is beyond embarrassing.

His family should do an intervention and get him to bow out before he does more damage to the Bush legacy, such as it is.

Two takeaways: no Trump fade, Cruz now climbing everywhere into third.

Like Trump says, “Carson is a nice guy”.

That’s it, he’s a great Doctor and human being, who said he is Presidential material?

America needs a pretend Redneck right now (Trump), that’s how bad things are.

Not only no Trump fade but also not Trump increase. Florida is unique with Bush and Rubio favorite sons status. Trump benefits from Cruz or Carson dropping. Eventually Trump makes a deal with both to substantially include them in his admin.

I would love to hear from Ben Carson supporters as to why they think he is Presidential material. What is it, about being a brain surgeon, that qualifies him to create jobs . . work internationally with foreign governments and laws . . negotiate contracts successfully, outsmarting competitors and bringing projects in, under budget and in record time . . maintaining classy country clubs/hotels,etc., over 20+ years, across several countries, with such expertise that the hotels/country clubs, etc., always seem to be the standard bearer of excellence in every category . . becoming a billionaire and yet maintaining a great relationship with blue collar workers to the extent that some labor unions are considering endorsing him. What does Ben Carson have in resume that even comes close to Trump? Ben is not self supporting his campaign . . he will owe something to someone at some point in time. I encourage any Ben Carson supporter to (please) tell me what he has in his years of experience that will be able to straighten out the American dream. How will he make America great again?

Carson was at Booksamillion here in Panama City, Florida where I live. He was having a book signing and there were only eight hundred people there. The population of Panama City was 36,877 as of 2013 and it is a pretty conservative area in the panhandle of Florida.

Agreed.

While true, it kind of bothers me, that line, “Make America Great Again”. That is right out of R. Reagan's campaign.
Yes, we need to kick start the nation again and bring ourselves up to par as a (former?) Superpower. The line sounds to hype, we need to be quiet and rebuild without proclamations even though this is an election campaign.

Just as Carter set America back a decade, so too President Ovomit has set us back, not a decade but 4 decades. The US needs a BOLD and yes, not PC-worried leader. The US needs a rough& tough style to bring us out of the muck. To restore the luster of the USA.

Trump is a brash, in your face New Yorker. He is a bragging, spoiled, self-centered S.O.B. but that appears to be the only way we will rebuild and get the ball moving again.
He is the ONLY candidate who shows that he has the guts to call it like it is and for that, he will get this writer's vote.

Predictable Rubio benefits with no Bush. He is just the and song with a different tempo.

If either Bush or Rubio become the nominee I will not pull the level for either one. I am tired of lap cats when the times demand lions

“America needs a pretend Redneck right now (Trump), that’s how bad things are.”

A pretend redneck - the origin of the term redneck is a pejorative term for Presbyterians who were from the lower economic classes.

A subtle jab and pretty funny even for a Trump supporter

When I look at the major problems facing the country, I see them in this order:

Uncontrolled immigration, national debt (too many entitlements), declining military power, Obamacare, failure to remain with limited federal government, and trade policies.

I don’t see most of the candidates making any inroads in most of these areas, in fact for some the opposite regardless of what they say now. In my view, Cruz would be the best followed by Trump. I don’t think Cruz is electable
so I am going in for Trump and pray Trump puts him in as VP.

I support Trump but there is air of Redneckness about him.

He's a real Bronx personality coupled with down home simplicity and even doggone Sgt. Alvin York delivery coupled with frank honesty, something nobody has seen around these here parts since Harry Truman.

I've never actually met or posted with a Carson supporter.

I know they are there, the polls tell me that, but they don't show up at rallies, there are few here at FR and I've never seen one in person.
