The ancient Egyptians and everyone on the internet may worship cats, but the feeling is less than mutual. Researchers from the University of Edinburgh worked with the Bronx Zoo on a study comparing the behavioral patterns of house cats with their much larger cousins. By rating them in the âBig Fiveâ personality traits â Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion/Introversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism â researchers uncovered quite a bit about your âdevotedâ companions.
With this feline Meyers Briggs test, they found that your fuzzy roommates had basically the same personalities as African lions, being dominant, impulsive and neurotic. Sure, theyâre also playful, clever and inquisitive, but their findings show that the only thing keeping them from murdering in you in your sleep is their size. Cats are no dummies, so as long as youâre ten times bigger than them, youâre probably ok.
According to psychologist Dr. Max Wachtel, understanding is the key to a symbiotic relationship with your cat.
âIt is good to understand the personality characteristics of our pets. Different cats have different personalities. But as a species, there are a lot of commonalities. Theyâre cute and furry and cuddly, but we need to remember when we have cats as pets, we are inviting little predators into our house. For a lot of people, it is worth it. Cats can be fantastic, sweet companions. Until they turn on you.â
I like Pits. They kill cats.
Cats are the Communists of the animal kingdom.
I have a bulldog and agree using the Fred/Wilma, Barney/Betty theorem.
Dogs have pupils with irises. Cats have .. slits?
Yes, diamonds in their eyes, like the reptiles that have been preying on mammals for milli.. a long time. A very long time.
OK.
Barney Rubble has no pupil irises and Wilma Flintstone has no irises in her pupils.
They have eyes like black buttons, like sharks or Raggedy Ann dolls: unblinking, soulless automatons.
Scary Halloween eyes.
And eyes are the windows to the soul.
Fred and Betty, on the other hand, have irises in their pupils. They are like doggies, cute little puppies, and the couples, the Flintstones and Rubbles, are mismatched.
Some people are mismatched with their pets. Many unfortunate feline owners have come under the spell of their calculating cats who want nothing more than to suck all their breath while they sleep!
So there it is. Dogs are like us and safe, while cats are reptilian with raptor-like brain stems—aliens, cold & calculating and they want to kill, kill, kill.
Brrrr!!! QED
I’ll take a dog too. I don’t want to die.
Useless on the ranch. Had two as rescues in the ranch. They nipped at a young stallion who promptly kicked both to death.
When you work animals you need ones that do their job and play well with others.
Pitts are prett useless in that regard.
Especially as the status of the food bowl is concerned!
Wow. That’s a heck of a last sight on earth.
I have several dogs. Dogs know their names— Cats are just eating machines. They get under cars and get run over in the driveway. I had one get up in my truck engine and when I started - it shredded him in the radiator blade. He was still alive so I put him out with a 12 gauge. A dog is soo much smarter and they know their name.
And a 10 lb cat can just make you wish you were dead instead of severely wounded.
Truthfully I am, and always have been, a dog person. But the situation today does not lend itself to having a dog. The cat is a better fit right now.
My kitty is beautiful and very affectionate. But I have to admit, when she looks up at me adoringly I wonder if it truly love...or trying to figure out which part she will eat first given the chance.
LOL, good one
My cat knows her name.
Met plenty of dogs that were outclassed mentally by fenceposts, rocks, and arboreal fungus.
I had a dear old dog 50 years ago that like to chase cars. One night he was ran over. A 12 gauge put him out of misery. That is how smart dogs are.
My dog once killed 1,000,000,000,000 cats in an hour. That makes me the toughest hombre on this here thread.
That will wise up a dumb kid.****************My thoughts also, kid 0 cat 1
I had a lesson myself with a cat years ago. The cat was right.
