You have to give it to Washington for one reason... he surrender power back to the people... twice...

At the end of the revolution as head of the Army

And as President.... setting the concept of 2 terms....

he had the popularity to put himself in power for life and he didn't ..

he kept giving it back to the people

Do you think any of the "want to be dictators" we have now would ever do that?... they want get away with and keep as much power as the can ....

so sad but Washington DC the city is the antithesis of Washington the man

John Adams cousin is an ancestor of mine, but that aside JA is very underrated and amazing. Most people have no idea.

Washington - The Indispensable MAN!
Franklin - Sage & Seer - Would we have got France on our side without him?
John Adams - THE driving force for Independence!

George Washington. He had guts and knew how to handle a
musket.

John Adams is very underrated. Possibly just because of theXYZ, and or alien/sedition act.

Agreed. Adams is one of my favorites - on thing that really impresses me about him is that he, unlike Jefferson, had a very unfavorable impression of the French Revolution, almost from the outset.

Another history buff!

You would not believe the blank looks I usually get when I give that answer.

We have him to thank for the Bill Of Rights, when you get right down to it.

I think Abigail Adams was an amazing patriot, although not a “Father”. Couldn’t have done it without her.

George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson -- but it's difficult to go wrong.

:-) I think you won the thread, imho, central_va. I tend toward the rowdy types, myself, but Thank God for those with the presence of mind to balance them out.

I don’t think I have a “favorite”. My first ‘favorite statesman’ is probably Nathan Bedford Forrest.
