Microsoft is opening its first-ever flagship store in New York City on Monday, with a vibrant retail space that showcases the best of Microsoft products and services.
An opening six years in the making, the Microsoft Flagship Store blends the world-famous retail experience of Fifth Avenue with innovative technology that is part of Microsofts DNA.
One of our goals, since we started the stores in 2009, was to have a real marquee location where we could bring an expanded retail presence, said Kelly Soligon, general manager, Worldwide Marketing, Microsoft Retail and Online Stores.
The flagship store, at 677 Fifth Ave., is one of more than 110 retail stores across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. It is the first Microsoft Store to extend two stories, and at 22,269 square feet, is the largest to date.
The extensive footage allows the store to showcase a wide array of best-in-class products that take advantage of powerful and versatile hardware to unlock new Windows 10 experiences, including new Surface, Lumia and Microsoft Band devices, Signature Edition PCs, Xbox One, Office, a variety of accessories and more. The flagship store is the only location to showcase Microsoft Surface Hub.
The stores Answer Deskwhich offers expert support for PCs and phones regardless of where a customer bought the deviceis larger than that of other Microsoft Stores. Its two community theaters offer roomy event space for free community and educational programs. And on Monday evening, the store will host eager fans awaiting the launch of Halo 5: Guardians, with opportunities to meet developers from 343 Industries, the games creator.
Team members at the flagship store team speak a total of 19 languages, including Spanish, Hindi, Mandarin, Arabic and Russian, to help customers from New York and around the world.

Well, I tend to think that Apple and Microsoft (now that MS is doing hardware/system products) are converging on what customers want. It's not the least bit surprising that they play leapfrog in innovation and development.
And just for the record, Surface Book just came out a week ago and surprised everyone. Apple hasn't been copying it -- they haven't had time! Hell, they probably were as surprised as anyone by it.
You're delusional. Microsoft copies Apple. Period. Examples:
Zune, long after Apple released many models of iPods. CNET regarded it at best as a "high-profile underdog alternative to Apple's iPod"... which promptly failed as an alternative. Zune first released November 14, 2006. Apple's iPod was first released October 23rd, 2001.
Surface vs iPad: The first generation devices under the Surface name were introduced on June 18, 2012 and launched on October 26, 2012.
Surface magnetic cover vs iPad magnetic cover: Surface magnetic cover introduced with much fanfare on same date in 2012 as the Surface, with the onstage demo mirroring what Steve Jobs did with the iPad 2 magnetic cover in March 2011.
Many, many, many more examples abound of Microsoft copying Apple. Oh, another one is a glaring example. Microsoft Windows, long after the Apple Lisa and Macintosh. Need I say more?
IPad pro with pen support.

Maybe so, but I figure that there is just one guy that gets to pick and choose what is on the site, and that’s the the owner of the house we are visiting.
I tried to go but the electronic doors blue screened before I could enter.
Yep. See my comment #15 above where I replied to the initial criticism. JimRob has been supportive of the tech threads; I wouldn't be running the Windows Ping List if I thought it was inappropriate for the site.
Case re-opened. I have an Apple Newton (mid-1990's) with pen support. Apple introduced the iPad Pro with pencil support; it's way more than a stylus which Microsoft doesn't have.
/case closed in favor of Apple
The Blue Screen door is a virtual hologram; you can walk right through it. But first you have to say the Name Of The Spirit Of Microsoft three times ("Ballmer-Ballmer-Ballmer") and wave an office chair in a threatening manner. The Blue Screen will disappear and you'll be inside.
Just kidding, of course. It doesn't have to be a truly threatening manner; you can smile while doing it.
I tried the 3 words that the dying alien told me to tell the robot AlGORT... “Alt Ctrl Del”
Ah, there's the rub. "Ctrl+Alt+Del" is the magic passphrase for the IBM store -- that key combination actually pre-dates the introduction of MS-DOS and was a feature of the original IBM-PC BIOS that was never intended to be made public. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Control-Alt-Delete#History
Popped in on so many I got a feeling I was skirting with a ban. Perhaps you missed that, makes no difference to me.
I scan thread titles, only read what interests me. I admit irritation at blatant advertising, when I see a multiple string of thread titles about Apple stock prices or some new bauble, all in the same day, often within the same hour. Really, who gives a damn? My gut tells me someone is paid to post it, but who knows.
There are so many threads, without a way of filtering out this crap, you are forced to scroll through it to find what is of interest.
I had a gap in my schedule yesterday and took a walk over to the MS Store. I never got in since there was a line 4 deep around the corner and half way up the block. I know it was the grand opening, but there is interest in the store. This was at about 2:00 in the afternoon and the wait to get in was over an hour, maybe 2 hours. I may try again today depending on how busy I am, but my time is too valuable to stand in line for MS or Apple.
They are all lining up to buy the new Zune.
Lol.... You’re ignoring Steve jobs comments in the modern touch era.
“Just like Microsoft to copy everything Apple does”
Apple people still post this?
I go to other tech sites and hear Apple people scream “Ive never heard anyone say that “!
Usually after some Apple event where they just got called out for copying ideas from other companies.
“Case re-opened. I have an Apple Newton (mid-1990’s) with pen support.”
So do I. The pen isn’t needed to doodle on the screen. It’s just a plastic stick. Not sure where you see that as “pen support” or even the direct ancester to any pen-based computing products.
Believe whatever you want to believe, it’s still a free country.
I have a Dell handheld running Windows Mobile from that Era that does the same thing (maybe better). Still works and handwriting recognition is pretty good. I don’t use it because smartphones have way oustripped the usefulness of any 90s handheld..
I agree completely.
Microsoft deserves an equal side. Sure this is pro-Microsoft propaganda, but there is already a bunch of pro-Apple propaganda.
Both sides deserve representation.
As does Linux, I might add. :D
