Microsoft is opening its first-ever flagship store in New York City on Monday, with a vibrant retail space that showcases the best of Microsoft products and services.
An opening six years in the making, the Microsoft Flagship Store blends the world-famous retail experience of Fifth Avenue with innovative technology that is part of Microsofts DNA.
One of our goals, since we started the stores in 2009, was to have a real marquee location where we could bring an expanded retail presence, said Kelly Soligon, general manager, Worldwide Marketing, Microsoft Retail and Online Stores.
The flagship store, at 677 Fifth Ave., is one of more than 110 retail stores across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. It is the first Microsoft Store to extend two stories, and at 22,269 square feet, is the largest to date.
The extensive footage allows the store to showcase a wide array of best-in-class products that take advantage of powerful and versatile hardware to unlock new Windows 10 experiences, including new Surface, Lumia and Microsoft Band devices, Signature Edition PCs, Xbox One, Office, a variety of accessories and more. The flagship store is the only location to showcase Microsoft Surface Hub.
The stores Answer Deskwhich offers expert support for PCs and phones regardless of where a customer bought the deviceis larger than that of other Microsoft Stores. Its two community theaters offer roomy event space for free community and educational programs. And on Monday evening, the store will host eager fans awaiting the launch of Halo 5: Guardians, with opportunities to meet developers from 343 Industries, the games creator.
Team members at the flagship store team speak a total of 19 languages, including Spanish, Hindi, Mandarin, Arabic and Russian, to help customers from New York and around the world.

(Note: Maybe it's just me, but the storefront with the Microsoft logo flying up in a framework of glass looks an awful lot like an Apple store. Just sayin'... Well, at least they don't have the GLEAM* homosexual rainbow flag alongside the logo.)

Just like Microsoft to copy everything Apple does, just extremely late to the party. No originality whatsoever! Every Microsoft store I've seen is practically empty of customers; what a joke.
So that's the end of the hijack.
"It's My Thread And I'll Hijack If I Want To" -- apologies to Leslie Gore
That's been a perennial problem for Microsoft's stores. They just don't have the cachet that Apple has.
But this new approach hopes to turn that around and make Microsoft "cool" enough to attract customers, especially young ones.
Much like their sexual desires, they have their fag flag pointed in the wrong direction. The Hoist goes to the Left and the Fly to the right.
Stupid Homos!
Maybe it's a subtle hint that they all lean to the Left....
Subtle? They are self described out gays. Nothing subtle about that!
Apple and Microsoft stores are too far away for me but if I ever had my choice I would go in the Microsoft store. I would like to check out the Halolens.
Yeah, I'm in the same position, centrally isolated in upstate NY, many hours of driving away from any of the big tech stores.
But I would also like to visit a Microsoft store, and play around with the Surface Book. If that line is still around when my Fujitsu Lifebook gives up the ghost, I may well opt for a Surface Book.
Windows 10 and all. The more I work with the production release of Win10 the more I get to like it. The damn UI still has too much Metro in it, but other than that I'm liking it.
Why post this here on a conservative political forum? Trying to confuse potential contributors as to what this site is about?
Not like there is a lacking of "tech" sites for those so inclined. Too much clutter here to begin with for this crap.
Please do not try to compete with the rainbow fruit crowd, they piss of enough people.
I’m in the middle between San Francisco and Portland. Both places I try to avoid. Small town guy.
I acknowledge your comment and point of view.
FreeRepublic has large areas of interest that are not political -- science and astronomy, motorcycles, dogs and cats, a huge variety of hobbies, sports, etc. -- and FReepers enjoy being able to get info and news, and converse about these non-political topics in a reasonably polite, conservative atmosphere with others sharing those interests.
A great number of FReepers are technically inclined with regard to their computers, and a majority use Windows and other Microsoft products.
The Windows Ping List that I run has over 100 FReepers who like to hear about Windows and Microsoft news.
This list (and I) are not "competing" with anyone. We are interested in things having to do with Windows and Microsoft, that's all. So I respectfully disagree that this is "spam". It's on-topic for the Windows Ping List. You're of course entitled to see it another way.
OBTW, the reason for my comment #4 above about GLEAM was that I made a somewhat obscure reference in comment #3 to Microsoft having flown the gay rainbow flag over its building, and thought it would be useful to give the reference, for the folks who didn't know about it and might question it.
Spam, eh? Tell me do you pop into all of the Apple posts and feed them the same gripe or is it just Microsoft posts you show up to bitch about? I have seen many posts that I personally have no interest in but don’t feel the need to drop in and bitch about it. If you’re not interested just don’t get involved is what I say, admittedly after involving myself.
Huh? Surface and surface book have Apple copying Microsoft.
Exactly.
Ugh, that GLEAM sh*t is unbelievably BARF-worthy!
I'll jump in uninvited and stand up for doorgunner69 -- I seem to recall him commenting on Apple threads as well, and I have no reason to believe he's anti-Microsoft as such. I think he's concerned about proliferation of threads on "non-core" topics on FreeRepublic (where "core" topics are presumably the ones listed at the top of the pages: Prayer SCOTUS ProLife BangList Aliens StatesRights ConventionOfStates WOT HomosexualAgenda GlobalWarming Corruption Taxes Congress Fraud MediaBias GovtAbuse Tyranny Obama ObamaCare Elections Polls Trump Carson Cruz OPSEC Benghazi InfoSec BigBrother IRS Scandals TalkRadio TeaParty and so forth).
I could be mistaken, of course; if I've read his concern wrong, I hope he'll correct me.
