When pressed during a CNN interview about why he thinks federal workers should be fired for not doing their jobs while he has missed the most votes in the Senate, Sen. Marco Rubio put his foot in his mouth and said that voting in the Senate is not important for a Senator.
In an interview that aired on CNNs State of the Union, Jamie Gangel pointed out to Rubio that other Senators running for president (Rand Paul and Bernie Sanders) have only missed ten votes while the Senator from Florida has missed 59.
Rubio answered, Well, I can tell you that in the history of presidential politics when theyve been running for politics in the Senate, theyve missed votes.
Sen. Rubio tried to explain away his absences by arguing that the Senate votes dont mean anything, A lot of these votes dont mean anything. Theyre not going to pass, and even if they did, the President would veto them.
Gangel reminded Rubio of his comments on the Senate floor that federal workers who arent performing should be fired, Someone might say youre not showing up. Youre not doing your job by voting.
Caught in his hypocrisy, Rubio tried to dig his way out, Not true. Because voting is not the most important part of the job. The most important thing that a Senator does is constituent services.
Gangel stopped him, Wait a minute. Votes arent important. Intelligence Committee hearing arent important.
Rubio was doomed by this point, We do all the intelligence briefings. I was just there this Tuesday. I got fully briefed and caught up on everything thats happening in the world. Im fully aware. We have a staffer thats assigned to intelligence who gets constant briefings. I think votes,of course, are important, but unfortunately, too many of them today are not meaningful.
The main purpose of a Senator is to represent the people of his/her state in the Senate. The people arent represented if their Senator doesnt show up. Taxpayers are not paying Rubio a six figure salary to have a staffer handle intelligence briefings.
Once Rubio realized what he had said, he tried to backtrack, but it was too late. Marco Rubio seems to be believe that he doesnt have to show up and do his job as a Senator because Republicans dont have a 60 vote majority in the Senate.
Rubio avoided the pointed about his not attending committee hearings by claiming that he gets briefings. Briefings are like skipping class and borrowing a friends notes to get caught up on what you missed.
The Republican establishment loves Rubios look and bio. No one in establishment politics can figure out why he is failing. Sen. Rubios constant habit of self-destructing every time he opens his mouth is why his presidential campaign is going nowhere fast.
Rubio wants to be in the Senate so that he can run for president, but he appears to have no interest in doing his job as a Senator. Marco Rubios lack of commitment to the people who elected to serve him is the reason he doesnt deserve to be in the Senate, much less be considered a serious contender for the White House.
He just wants to spend his time with his family.
That’s a “thing” with the pro amnesty Republicans these days.
Trump and Carson are also residents of Florida.
Making a spectacle of yourself as a slacker isn't becoming, and you and I both wouldn't do it.
Hopefully they will. At least we know Rubio will not be going back to the Senate.
I agree with this
“Trump is going to have fun with this.”
I can’t wait for how Trump uses it to tear this frat boy down.
Stand by for more flippity flops.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
This should cost Rubio in polls.
I noticed Politics USA failed to mention Sen. Cruz. How many times has Ted Cruz missed votes?
Good to see Rubio getting skewered! I’m tired of seeing the GOPe and MSM pushing him as a great candidate. He sucks!
Full time?
If you were to ask Donald, would he say he’s a New Yorker, or a Floridian?
I mean, the man owns properties all over the world.
Besides, Yeb and Marco are bothe Florida politicians.
Jebbie Bush = Low Energy
Marco Rubio = No Work Ethic
Not the first time, saw him on meet the press a long time ago and he melted down which Is why I always thought he was a lightweight
Senate votes are all rigged anyway. If the outcomes are unknown, the votes don’t occur. Rubio’s absence is already factored into the Kabuki Theater.
Unfortunately, you’re correct. Today I had an exchange with a “Republican” on Twitter. She stated that she would never vote for Trump because he was too liberal. The ironic thing is that she stated that she would gladly vote for Rubio or Bush. She thinks they are conservative.
Another gem- she strongly supports Paul Ryan for speaker. She didn’t like my opinion about that one:)
In another conservation someone tweeted that we needed to vote, even if it was for the lesser evil. I immediately thought of you:) I promptly tweeted that I would not vote for a candidate if they didn’t meet my standards. I’m conservative, not Republican. He didn’t agree with that either.
True conservatives are definitely fighting an uphill battle. There are so many voters duped by the GOPe that it’s scary. Go, Cruz!
Trump owns and has a residence at Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach. Yes, his primary residence is probably NY, but he is no stranger to FL. Carson apparently has lived in Ibis Country Club, a golf development in Palm Beach County, FL, since 2013. Your point is well taken, but wanted to clarify their Florida ties, as well.
btt
Also, several have noted his unusual sweating. It could indicate health problems, drug use, or fear/guilty conscience.
