Three Dog Night co-founder and vocalist Cory Wells died Tuesday, according to the band's website. He was 74.
"It is with deep sadness and disbelief that I must report the passing of Cory Wells, my beloved band mate for over 45 years," Three Dog Night's Danny Hutton wrote in a press release. "Cory was an incredible singer a great performer, he could sing anything."
Wells "died unexpectedly" in Dunkirk, N.Y. He had been touring with the band until September 2015 when he developed "severe back pain." No cause of death was given.
"Cory was like a brother in so many ways," said Hutton. "We had been together since 1965 and I am in shock at this sudden loss."
The group is best known for its 1960s and 1970s hits "Joy to the World," ''Mama Told Me (Not to Come)" and "Black and White."

O.M.G! RIP.
3DN was a rite of passage, back in the day. I would forward this to my HS GF, if I knew her email address.
Not that she’d care ...
;-)
Yet the peanut guy is still alive ! So much unfairness....RIP!

Unlike many other rock musicians of the day, Wells was able to abstain from serious drug and alcohol problems, nor did he squander his earnings on the lavish life style of a successful rock star, choosing to live a somewhat more moderate existence.
After Three Dog Night broke up in 1976, Wells tried a solo career, recording the album Touch Me for A&M Records in 1978. Wells helped re-launch Three Dog Night in the mid-1980s, recording an EP called “It’s a Jungle.” A falling out with Negron left Hutton and Wells with the name “Three Dog Night” as an entity, under which they had performed successfully until recently, and the pair (along with original member Mike Allsup) toured regularly each year.

I was living in Hollywood back in the day and my wife & I were in Griffith Park when we saw TDN and entourage leaving GP after an album photo shoot. They were sure dressed REALLY strange...even considering the time and place.
Or an aneurysm.
(Most likely one of yours though.)
According to the story he is survived by his wife of 50 years, 2 daughters and 5 grandkids.
Impressive.
Everyday my youth dies away.
Three Dog Night: One of my favorites
One is the loneliest number, its just no good anymore since you went away...
RIP!
They left out Jeremiah, his beloved bullfrog.
There will be a little less Joy to the World.
One is the lonelyest number that you ever do, two can be sad as one.
The collective music of the 60’s and 70’s is unsurpassed IMHO.
I forgot how much I love these songs. They are full of passion.
