Controversial tech boss and presidential candidate John McAfee has warned a 'doomsday' electronic weapon could wipe out 90% of Americans and urged politicians to is the number one threat facing the country.
McAfee, who recently announced he is running in 2016, wrote in a blog for Business Insider: 'Experts agree that an all out cyber attack, beginning with an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack on our electronic infrastructure, would wipe out 90% of the human population of this country within two years of the attack.
'That means the death of 270 million people within 24 months after the attack.'

The missile is equipped with an electromagnetic pulse cannon. This uses a super-powerful microwave oven to generate a concentrated beam of energy. The energy causes voltage surges in electronic equipment, rendering them useless before surge protectors have the chance to react
I am sure by now China has detailed plans on this weapon

With McAfee pushing this we now know for certain it’s simply not a problem. His whole company is built on selling fear.

No, it will take something like a nuclear weapon with the yield of the bomb tested on the Starfish Prime test in 1962 to really debilitate the US power infrastructure. Only the Russians and Chinese have that capability (for now).

I used to think the EMP threat scare was a tin-foil-hat type scenario, until I started reading up more on it. Turns out that many military experts see that as a very serious, credible threat.
Too bad that our military experts IN the military don’t get to make the decisions - community organizer sodomite activists do.

So you think Boeing didn’t real build the weapon?

That is nifty tech, but way to limited in range and dispersal area to be a threat to the entire country. It would take weeks for a swam of microwave armed droned to put a dent in even one major city.

Yep. You couldn’t build that many EMPs.

McAfee is an unusual guy, and that’s an understatement.
But, the Carrington EMP effect is real. A solar flare in the 1870’s fried the telegraph system and railroad ties caught fire from the solar current running through the rails.
Two well placed relatively low yield nukes at 60,000 feet, one over Ohio, and one over a western Nebraska would destroy our electric grid and all unprotected electronics.
Korea, Iran, or any other technical rogue attack would send us back to the stone age, and not do any major property destruction.

An EMP followed by a cyberattack?
After an EMP, what’s left of cyberspace?
Methinks the lily is being gilded.

If I remember correctly, the USAF actually did some operational tests of the so-called EMP bomb in Iraq during the 2003 invasion and found it less effective than originally thought. In short, if you want to really knock out the power grid, you'll need a powerful nuclear warhead detonated at least 130 km (81 miles) above the ground; this is why I think the Russians kept the old R-36 (SS-9 Scarp) ICBM's much longer than originally thought because the 20 MT warhead detonated about 500 km (310 miles) above the center of the USA could cause enormous EMP damage.
